Dead of summer can be really still. July and August are usually high humidity, light winds.

The downwinders are the best in the area. With both East and South facing beaches, and North and West facing soundside beaches, the possibilities are endless.

If you go for a week in Fall, Winter, or Spring, you're bound to have some good sessions! It's gonna blow 15-20 for the next five days! :thumb: Have fun!

Spring and Fall are best times as mentioned. Sound side water will be warming up soon (I hope) and wind will be consistent. (Blowing right now and I'm in Raleigh in the office - damn!)

Anyplace on the island is "good", but I'm partial to Avon, as we have a place there and it's also centrally located. Wind out of the west, easily get down to Frisco, any other direction, you have riding choices all over, sound or ocean.
Kite Point is just south of Avon, plenty of turn offs on the sound side for downwinders both north and south of Avon.
More restaurants in Avon and Buxton (I think, unscientific guess) two grocery stores, great people all over.
Bottom line: Just Go! (and have FUN!)

Norfolk, Va (ORF) seems to be the closest international airport to the OBX. About 135 miles north of Cape Hatteras for a point of reference.

If it's in your budget, rent a four wheel drive vehicle (don't tell them you're taking it off road, though) ;) . While you don't need it in Hatteras, it opens up a lot more convenient access for you if you can drive out on the beach out to kite point. Don't need, but real nice to have. When you get there ask the locals for beach driving tips.
