Terrible Pollution in Boracay Bulabog

Postby flysurfing » Tue Jan 06, 2015 7:05 am

Hello All,

I am back for a trip of few weeks in Boracay / Bulabog.

The wind was great, however the water in Bulabog is terribly polluted... I met around 15 kiters who experienced sickness / skin rash by falling into the water. I also myself got sick and it's likely to come from water as my diet was free of sea food and related.

There is a huge pipe directly throwing sewage water into the sea... The water is brown and smell like sewage water on the first 40/50 m from the shore.

It's such a pity to see such a nice spot going this way, i met many people who are considering stopping coming to boracay due to this issue.

Has anyone any idea why nothing is being done ? I assume if nothing is done within couple of year bulabog will be a dead spot with very few kitesurfers / windsurfers.

Cheers

I was there in May (not to kite) and passed that pipe at 2 in the morning. There was a load of crap coming out . They only release the sewage at night when no one can see. There was no treatment plant that I could see on the island . Be careful

any recommendation which station or accomodation (cheap ones) I should book in?
Heading to boracay ont 20th of January.

I guess it depends where the pipe is coming out?

The problem on Boracay is, that they build faster than they are increasing the sewage capacities.
They illegally connect to the sewage system and there goes the shit.

In my opinion they missed the point of limiting constructions and keep it a paradise as it was.
It is at its turning point unfortunately.

I hope they get the sewage worked out, since I really enjoyed the island many times.

The problem also is, that Chinese companies want to keep building and even make Bullabog a parking lot! (yes, make the whole bay a concrete hell). They don't care a second about nature, all it counts is money. If you have such investors don't expect it to get better. Sad.

Good luck Boracay!

Hello,

You are right the level of construction on Bulabog and the rest of the island is getting crazy.
In 2007 when i first come in Boracay Bulabog was still nice, right now it's full of resorts all over the beach.

The pollution thing is a huge issue, i talked with so many people considering not coming back the next season. Risking skin disease and other sickness it's not worth it...

Well i hope they sort this out and communicate about it otherwise it would be too late to get kitesurfer back there.

for me its to late to change plans, because I have already booked.
Now I know its close to Hanging.....what would you recommand?
Isla Kitesurfing? and surfers home?

Or something else (cheap accomodation) which is a bit more fare away from this Pipe?

Enjoy your trip)
The beach is so small that I don't think that it matters which station you choose... I've been there twice and have not had any problems.

Me also 3 times and never a problem.
Although I came not in main season like Dec or Jan.
But heard some stories before...and I am sure it is much worse now thinking about the speed of construction there. Last time was in 2012.
And you Olga?
