Hi scubajunky,

what about Cabarete in the DR. We have awesome wind every day now in summer and you can find everything from flat water to nice waves.

I got stuck here a while ago because it's such a nice place and I'm now managing a litte hotel (Hooked Cabarete) for kiters and surfers. If you are interessted just check out your website www.hookedcabarete.com.

Let me know if you have any further questions, regardless wether you want to stay with us or not.

Cabarete is amazing but August gets you into the rainy days and less wind. July is better in cabarete.

What about Mexico? I'm tempted by Brazil but it seems expensive over there

Mexico during the summer pretty much sucks everywhere for kiting (Except Baja North or pacific side), because it is the rainy season. The best months for wind in most of Mexico are Feb-May, below are the approximate best wind seasons per area.

La Ventana - November / April (Frontal+Thermal)

Puerto Vallarta - Feb / June (Thermal)

Acapulco - Jan/May (Thermal)

Northwest Yucatan, Progreso - Year round, windiest most consistent spot in Mexico, but best months Jan / June (Trade winds + thermals, frontal winds in the winter) , July / August less windy months still with many 10-15 knot days.

Riviera Maya (From Cancun down) - October / April May (Frontal)

Gulf of Mexico, Veracruz/Tampico - October / May (Frontal mostly, some thermal)

Northern Baja (San Quintin / San Carlos Wave spot, Pacific) - I think year round, best months May / October , have not kited there.

Brazil is amazing, but it really is very expensive, even if you travel very cheap. Must go place at least once in your life.

That's basically it for the most well known and kited spots in Mexico.

Cheers!

Thanks for the low-down on Mexico. So Brazil is very expensive? what sort of daily budget am I looking at? Is it worth the expense or is there anywhere else you could recommend?
