Hi, I'll stay in Houston for ten days around Christmas, should I bring my kite gear? I understand this is out of the wind season for the northern Texas, but how bad could it be? I'm not sure I have time during this occasion for going further south to Padre Island etc., but maybe that would be my only hope for a few good days? I guess it would feel nice anyway, too much snow and ice on my favorite local beaches here (Norway) in December. Thanks, for any info shared.
Cheers, Olav

We start getting our northern fronts in September. This past season I was out on Xmas day with 40+kts if that will give you an idea of the wind. Texas has some of the best winds in the world with some of the ugliest water lol.

Thanks, I'll give it a try! As for the water, I guess you have other places to drink.

Check out houstonkiteboarding.com for local spots. That time of year the Levee is your best bet. If there is west in the wind the Dike is decent, Baycliff spill way is one of our best wave spots but the entry is sketchy. Last but not least is San Luis pass which is a nice spot but shallow, and whe I say shallow I meen SHALLOW!!!
As far as the drinking water goes Ozarka to the rescue.

Thanks again, you really made me look forward to this trip! It will be interesting to find how deep shallow-shallow goes, I'm more used to "wow, I touched bottom today".

Just send me a PM when you get into town man. I'll steer you to a spot for the wind. Or contact the guys at XLkites chances are we will be at the same place.
