I used ATM machines there for Dong. US dollars are good pretty much everywhere as well.

When are you headed? I'm debating flying over soon myself. Thailand doesn't seem to have dick for wind and I really don't feel like being underpowered.

Hi Toby I am in Mui Ne at the moment and will be working on KTA :). No problems with ATM's in the place, just get ready to be a millionaire since 100 USD is roughly 2100000 Vietnam dong .... No problems with changing cash either.

Dont be surprised with all the signs in Russian, feels like walking the streets in Moscow

Just went back to Vietnam for the first time in 25 years (2 years ago). US currency are almost better than the local "Dong". The local money are so devalued that many business people preferred the US dollars over their own. Got relatives traveling back yearly and they seem to fine without exchanging. Just make sure you have smaller bills, changes might be a problem since must will pretend not to have enough the break your big bills. There are usually two prices for most things, local pricing and tourist pricing. Hanging out with a local kiteboarding friend will really help.

BTW. Vietnamese language uses an alphabet verses other asian countries they use characters. Most words are single syllable.

Have Fun!

when you land in saigon, as soon as you exit the terminal, go right all the way to the end of the airport and you will find 5-6 atm. use the vietnamese bank as they will give you small notes(100 000) not 500 000 dong...

I usually go there once a year and find that using the local currency gives the better deal.... then u pay the local rate... once u start negociating things in US currency you become a tourist (yea ok of course you are) and then pay the tourist amount which is higher in asia.. the best thing u can do is haggle... whatever currency u use make sure u haggle for a better deal as 10 times out of 10 u will get a better deal!!! enjoy and good winds there and this time of year it should b good!!!
