Kiting New Brunswick - Acadian Islands - Shippagan

Postby Roberto Gomez » Wed Jul 04, 2012 10:42 pm

Has anyone traveled to the Acadian Islands, Shippagan, New Brunswick, Canada lately? Or any locals from there with any info? It looks like a good place to kite from the little I've found, just wondering if anyone has any info to share about kiting there. Good places to stay, best kite spots, best time to go. Thanks.

Just returned from a week on Prince Edward Island - if NB is similar then I think you will have a great time up there! Just bring a wetsuit :)

I have been half a dozen times .....its always great, but not the caribbean !

The season is end June to end August and we go just before or just after (this year I am there for labour day week). You go there to Kite..... nightlife & fine dining are not in great supply, but it is
peaceful and relaxed , and, there are great places to ride, flat water, waves and the tidal range is moderate.

The water is surprisingly warm (baie des chaleurs = bay of warmth) but the air can be cool..... be prepared to dress for 3 seasons...1/9 we'll be in neoprene for sure.

Contact kim & adrien http://www.chaletsdesvacanciers.ca/ for places to stay

I was there last summer at the end of August. Lots of wind and you'll definitely need atleast a shortly or full wetsuit but an excellent spot. Lots of riding available in the flat water pool and on other areas close by..

We stayed in one of the houses Eric Girard rented out. He had a kiteschool (Club Wind & kite) there. Not sure if it's active this year as he was trying to find someone else to manage it.

Good article about the area in SBC

Been there 4 times; the best time to go kiting is around labour day weekend (1st of september); I think that september is usually when they have the strongest wind.

This year we are trying it in august to get some warmer weather (my GF doesn't kite)

Last time I was there we had +30 knots all week long. The nice part is that you have access to flat water spots (chiasson office, pointe campbell); waves (miscou island); nice chop (pointe canot) etc... you can kite in la Baie des Chaleurs. This is where the St-Lawrence river meet the Antlantic Ocean. You can also kite on the Ocean side where the water is a lot cooler though.

It doen't matter on which side that the wind is coming since there are so many kiting spots. You have also lots of really nice beaches.

this is a link to Adrien's houses to rent (used to be Eric Girard's houses); that gives you access to an amazing nice flat water private spot.

We go back every year; people are really nice; the seafoods are fresh and very cheap. The beaches are also really nice and aren't overcrowded. If you like kiting and the outdoor you have to go there at least once in your life.
