Looking for anyone who can give me advice on kiting conditions in the Marquesas Islands in the month of May (2013). I am invited aboard a sailboat for two weeks and would like to take my gear. I may spend a couple of days in Tahiti but most of the time will be in the Marquesas Islands. I don't know what kind of winds to expect and would appreciate any advice. I'll report back to this forum when I return!

Here is a link to some cool pics in Tahiti:

Thanks!

in 2009 i went to tahiti and marquesas with my wife in march and the wind was slow.
on the best day of the two weeks we had there was 12 to 15 knots.
The only place i saw kitting was in Papeete and in Morea but.
we went on march 1 to march 15.
if you donot have a gopro i do recomend buying on.
Awesome for diving an underwater pics.

Marquesas island have a big rocky beach were the harbour is. Pretty big bay!
Not much to do on the island but really nice show put by local family that has a tradition on ancient dancing rituals.
visiting tikis and some small ruins.
it is amazing that an habitaded island in the middle of the ocean so far away from everything.
fishing and skuba is a must!!

Thanks for sharing about your Marquesas experience. I wonder if anyone knows of a link to an online wind archive for French Polynesia. That way I can get an idea of the average winds in May for that part of the world.

I went there twice, and stayed for 15 days each time.
I had 10 to 13 knots most of the time, just two days of 15 to 18 knots, At the first time my bigger kite was a 12 (took a 12 and a 9) , lost a few days of kiting. At the secound time I took a 17 and a 12, could kite every day .
