Hey.. I am thinking of going to Cuyo Islands, Phillipines in Jan 2014.
Anybody here been there at all?
I can swap travel and kite info for Brasil, Australia, CApetown, Madagascar, Vietnam, Peru, Colombia and the ANTARTIC!! plus a few other spots

looking for basic info like.. best season/months to go? how regular is the wind? Is gusty or constant wind? kite sizes to take? and any general impressions you may want to share

From the Windguru archives it looks like Jan to March the best months for wind, but keen to get any insiight from someone who has been there

thanks :) happy riding

Hey..

Im on Cuyo Island now and have been here for 3 weeks. We have been unlucky with the wind, but it seems like the wind is coming back in January. The best season is jan and feb so u are coming in the best month.

I have a 12, 9 and a 7 with me. I have only been using my 12, but the people
Around here are saying that it have been unusual. Last year they were using 7 on the 24 th and I had my 12 for 30 min. before the wind disappeared again.

The people on the island is friendly and it is cheap to stay here. It's only 400 peso pr day and that is with accommodation and eating at the market.

I can only recommend u come to Cuyo!:)

On what days are the ferries from Iloilo running to Cuyo? I know the schedules are sometime changing. I myself plan to visit next month.

Also, I know the wind in Cuyo town is offshore. Does it get pretty gusty or is it still pretty smooth?

Does anyone know about the quality of wind in cuyo town? I am debating between taking a 6m RPM or 7m fuel for my small kite. If the wind is smooth, I'll go with the fuel. If it is gusty, I'll go with the RPM. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going to Austrelia then Perth beaches are very good for kite surfing. Many Perth beaches ar ideal kite water sport locations. throughout the summer months Perth's ocean breezes give kiters with various locations to decide on from. Head to Leighton Beach close to Fremantle, Brighton Beach (just south of Scarborough) or Pinnaroo purpose and Mullaloo Beach within the northern suburbs.

Don't go to Cuyo. Kitesurfing locals are mental. Owner of Cuyo Watersports Association wanted to cut my head off!!! He also threaten other foreigners during my stay and in the past. Just listen for yourself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDCNpMxRROQ
