Kiting locations and rental in San Fran area?

Hey, I’m from the Toronto area, (new to the forum). I’m flying to Vegas June 29th then road tripping along the coast for a few days then staying in the San Jose area with friends until July 10th. I don’t think I’m going to bring my kite gear with me, as I’m skeptical of how practical it would be and if ill even get many opportunities to use it.

I’m thinking my best chances of getting out would likely be when I’m in San Jose, I could rent from a shop and kite in San Francisco?

Any local knowledge on kite spots, and if and where I could rent gear would be great! Unless there is a good chance that I’ll get several days of wind and that it would be worth bringing my own gear?

Same goes for mountain bike opportunities, Santa Cruz, Lake Tahoe?

Thanks!

Bringing your kite gear might be best if you can. It's the windy season in the Bay Area, so you'd most likely be able to use it on any day you have time to. I think it might be possible to rent from Board Sports in Alameda (but not sure).

For info on locations and local knowledge, go to http://www.bayareakiteboarding.com. Lots of good spots to ride, but make sure you read up on each one first. Some don't work all season long, so won't be worth trying. Others have hazards. Anyway, all that info is in the site guide on BAK. Hope you get some time in on the water!

Thanks cleepla, that's a very useful site.

I've talked to a few people and all say that winds will likely be quite good. Now I just have to break it to my gf that OUR vacation is going to turn into MY kite vacation!

Plenty of amazing kiting and mountain biking in and around the SF Bay Area. Like someone already said check out http://www.bayareakiteboarding.com for a run down on the local kite spots. If you were to just bring ONE kite pack your 9m.

Marin, Santa Cruz, and Tahoe hold years and years worth off Mtb riding. All depends on where you are willing to travel to. But I would for sure try to make the time to go to SC.
