Brazil Guajiru or Uruau

Postby Mehdino » Sat Sep 19, 2015 9:35 am

I'm planning to go to Brazil next December to Cumbuco and another spot, I'm doubting between Guajiru (not Ilha de Guajiru) and Uruau. Going with the family and I more freestyle/wakestyle oriented. Thx for help.

I know both spots.

In December expect better winds in Guajiru.

For freestyle you want flat water, which the small lagoon in Uruau offers, but can be very small if there is no rain...lagoons dry or get smaller out in dry season. It is already small, but then it will be tiny...and then dangerous if you crash, plus 2 riders and it will be pact.

Guajiru has no flat water, it is ocean riding, which is wavy and choppy. There is two lagoons upwind, you need a buggy or 4x4 to get there (which can be rented or used as taxi).
But, also depends on tides and rain if they are big enough.

The downwinder from Guajiru to Mundau is very nice, specially when a swell is coming in.
Mundau also has a big lagoon (river mouth), but it is gustier there...but on the ocean on low tide you will find very nice flat water pools...be careful with the reefs and rocks, which you can easily see.

Enjoy!

So Guajiru is better in December coz of the wind and more family oriented. Right Toby?

why not jericoacoara? Its very nice for the familiy and you have a lot of flat water spots near. It is strong wind but so constant you wont mind, i could do freestyle with a 7m c kite without problems in december (25-30 knots but really nice conditions)

Jericoacoara is really great but nearly 5 hours of road trip from Fortaleza airport is a bit heavy after 9 hours on an airplane. This is my first trip to Brazil and I'll only stay one week so that's why I wanna stay the closest to Fortaleza.

Really? coz google map gave me exactly 4h:40min by the nearest road. if it's just 3 hours then it's something else.

Hey there,
I'm now in Uruau and if you're wakestyle/freestyle orientated I can say You it's one of the best place to train. The lagoon itself its not so big and because of that there are no freeriders. You can really focus on your tricks with perfect wind :D :D .

During the day You can easily find the time when the lagoon is empty and have 2 h killer session.
Comparing to other places you dont need a buggy. If You want to kite just pump you gear in front of the station and hit the water. For me thats the best.
If You need some info I can help You without a problem.!

rosen, now the wind is perfect there..this changes in December.

Not sure about family options...both are not that great..Jeri would be much better I think.
But 3 hrs from Fortaleza airport? I am a fast driver...and I make it from Cumbuco to Ilha do Guajiru in a bit over 2 hrs.
Add Fortaleza to Cumbuco plus Ilha to Jeri...you don't want to be sitting in that car with your family...

For kids the Beach Park south of Fortaleza is great fun...one of the top 10 water slides! (I would be too chicken to do that one!)
