Fuerteventura Sotavento in June? kite & wetsuit advice...

Postby christophebcn » Fri May 27, 2016 10:17 am

Hello,

i'll be in Sotavento in June

Ideally, i would like to travel with only 2 kites and TT, but i'm not sure if i should take 6 and 9 or 9 and 12m :-?
Rene Egly's website lists june as mostly > F4 (over 16kts) which sounds like using the 9 most of the time.

Is windguru accurate for Sotavento, or are there some local wind phenomenons?

i understand that there is less wind on the other spots of the island, so maybe the 12 for other spots?

regarding water temperature, should i bring a full 5/4 or can i get by with a shorty?

thanks

There is a Venturi effect.
The NE wind gets accelerated thru mountains and then blows NW.
Sideoffshore and gusty as hell.

If you can, don't go there. It is dangerous.
I was kiting in the lagoon, jumped in a gust, gust was gone, I dropped like a stone, my head hit ground. I stopped kiting there and preferred to work.

It is that bad.

Go north to flagbeach...smooth and good winds there.

Sotavento is from 12-30 knots all possible within seconds.

You cannot choose the right size there.

You go fully powered edging hard, the next second you sink due to light wind and then a gust kicks you out of the water. I personally experienced this.

And with how I ride nowadays, I would look like a beginner doing my tricks.
