Boracay situation

Postby Tugnin » Wed May 10, 2017 4:50 pm

Hi, I would like to have some info about Boracay.
I want to go there next winter, maybe in January.
I heard it's nice but crowded.
Someone has been there this winter?
How is the "pollution" situation?
Thanks in advance

Due to bad reputation Boracay is less crowded than before for kiters. it doesnt happen anymore that you have 200 people in the bay even in peak season. The wind is still awesome and reliable and for kiting- apart from the poluted water, its good. The water is poluted and government is working on it, but still it is brownish, if you go next bay behind the rock - there are a second and third bay, there the water is a bit better.
But you have to like crowded islands if u go to Boracay with many chinese and korean guests, development went fast- so the island is full of construction and white beach (the opposite side of the Kitebeach) is full with people .
Its the right place if you travel with nonkiters- as the infrastructure allows all activities you can imagine: massage, golf, sailing, diving, freediving, snorkeling, spa, cliffjuming, horsebackriding, go kart, zipline, zorb , paintpall etc. Its the right place if you like partylife and a choice of restaurants.Very nice to do from Boracay as a kitesafari is Seco island a 3 day trip to a Robinsonisland where you kite, kite, kite, sleep on the beach and cook on the campfire- its a small sandbank in the middle of the southchinese sea with flat water and a protecting reef around the island. those trips can be booked with www.borakite.net, www.surfershomeboracay.com or www.islakitesurfing.com

If you dont mind all those things but rather have a choice of kitespots and infrastructure like water, electricity and internet and white sand beaches and nature around with mountains to bike or motorbike and rivers to standup paddle and if you dont mind not to have the partylife of Boracay and the coffeeshops and Malls- there is a new spot 3 hours north to reach from Caticlan/boracay by Fastferry and called Bulalacao. Its remote but 5 knots more wind than Boracay and its a nice combination if you want to have a bit of everything to split your holiday and do few days on Boracay and few days in Mindoro. The website will go online within the next week, as there is a new kitecenter with resort under construction: www.kitesurfmindoro.com

Horrific over-built place. Roads cant cope with traffic.
Bay poluted. Beach errosion is bad. On high tide, no beach left to launch. I dont go there anymore.

The second and third bays are small.. not worth the trouble of traveling there.

Seco trip is nice. This is one remaining thing that is worth doing there.. book directly with a guy who is doing the trip: http://www.freedom-kitesurfing.com
Other sites maybe re-sellers of the same thing for a markup.

There are few new spots nearby, but you should do ur own research. The last thing we want is for those places go the way of boracay..

Thanks guys...
More or less you describe what I think to find there.
I already thought to kite in Union Bay ( or some other Bay) and spend evening or no wind day in Boracay.
I have been already in Muine Ne, Cape Vert and in January there are not so many options.
Isn't it?

Can you suggest windy places in Thai or during January...
I read a lot on line but didn't find a place with reliable wind.
Hua Hin or Puket seem to be the windiest but if you look at statistics on windfinder / winguru they are very low windy compared to Boracay.
Thanks in advance

Thai in January it's not the windiest place but you will have some wind (10-15 days in month). This part of the year you can except north wind 10-20 knots, from 8 am to 15 pm. You can check Pak nam pran (30 km from Hua Hin) better conditions and really nice place to spend time.
