Cheapest country for lessons?

Postby Pascale » Sat Mar 31, 2018 2:31 pm

Hello,

When I look at the price of kite lessons, it always very expensive like 100$ an hour.
Could you recommend a country where classes are more reasonable?

All I'm saying here is that's a lot of money for me.
I like to travel but also like to take lessons to improve.

Thank you

I would think the most cost effective strategy would be a place with consistent wind, cheap lodging, cheap airfare, and located where renting a car is not needed.

I agree. Keep flight and per-day costs down and time on the water up.

Also, I'm not an instructor, but I don't begrudge them $100/hour. They have a lot of expenses as beginners beat up their equipment, they can only work when it's windy, ... The ones I know are not living large by any means! I would suggest maybe a few 1 hour lessons interspersed by practice time on your own.

SPI is very cheap and reliable but you need a car. Beach-front kiting places I know (no car) are much more expensive.

I would be very careful looking for a "deal" on lessons. Considering when learning you are at the highest risk of injury I would look to countries where you 1. have travel insurance that covers extreme sports, 2. excellent hospitals ....

Come to Lake Calima in Colombia, at JP Wind kiteschool you will be paying around 55 USD per hour, the equipment is all 2018 Cabrinha and you will have a dedicated instructor and rescue boat.
There is also lodging available and the wind blows all year round.
