2006 Slingshot Bar Recall?

Postby Derek N. » Thu Jan 26, 2006 2:38 am

There's a new post on ikiteboarding.com about the 2006 Slingshot Bar early wear out problems due to the center hole cutting the rope. Supposedly, Slingshot is offering new replacement bars that have a metal dug-out inserted in the center hole. Does anyone here know anything about this? I'm asking because I want to buy the 2006 Fuel but don't want to end up with a recall bar.

Yes, there was a whole thread about this last week I think.

There is a pic of the new bar with the metal insert on the cut out. If you buy the old one, they will replace it, so you have nothing to worry about.

I had to change the chicken rope after about 40 hours of use, so I will not brake in 1 week

Yes there is a problem with the bars.

I got mine swopped out yesterday for my TD.
The new bar has a metal sleeving in the dugout.

Hopefully it holds AND doesn't rust like the bearing on the inside of the chicken loop is doing after only 3 months use.

Hey chavez, I’m curious about your rusting bearing. From your location (SA), I assume you kite mostly in salt water? Also, do you rinse the bearing with fresh water and hang so it can dry out after each use?

It’s winter up here so I’ve only used the new bar a couple of times & mostly in fresh water. Appreciate your feedback.

Also, I checked with SS and the metal sleeve in the dug out is stainless steel, so no worries about rusting.

Tx, Dano

PS KB1020, contact your local store (dealer) where you purchased the kite/bar and they will get you a replacement from SS.

Chavez: Is the rust on the surface of the metal or is it eating its way down? If its on the surface it might be that the skin that forms from the other compounds in the alloy have not formed so it has become a rust stain. Most likely is that the skin is formed below and stops the rust from going deeper into the alloy. Stainles steel is a soft alloy and they might have swapped it for some stronger but more rust-prome steel in the bearings.
