Anybody been to Tybee Island, GA

Postby Dj A-Ron » Sat Sep 12, 2009 5:49 pm

I'm going to Georgia over Thanksgiving to visit family. They live a few miles north of Atlanta. I was researching on kitebeaches.com for places to kite on the coast of Georgia and the closest place I could find was Tybee Island. Has anybody been there around November/December? Windy?

Also, any suggestions on other places to kite? Anything closer worth checking out? Tybee Island is 4-5 hours from my familys place.

I'm just curious if it'd be worth bringing my gear??? :-?

Hey,

Here is an old article that has some information on Tybee Island.

The south tip is the favorite spot.

Also, there is a group that kites on Lake Lanier (north of Atlanta) when the wind is good. I may be able to dig up the spots somewhere if you are interested.

Been to Tybee a few times. South Point is the best but the downwinders from the north tip are great. Awesome crew there as well. The south point has some current at times to deal with but at low tide it come alive with waves and flat water. The island is small but has a great little town vibe.
