I cried tonight

Postby nbbowers » Fri Sep 02, 2005 4:28 am

I can’t watch the news. Poor black people, dieing in the streets. I can hardly sleep at night. All of us in my family lie half awake, in and out of sleep, cursing our government. It is not something that can be forgotton about. In the USA, people dieing because they dont have water in the middle of New Orliens. Like the titanic the poor were left behind. I don’t understand how there is virtually nothing we can do to help. My family has donated tons of money, but it doesnt seem to help, there dieing now. For a government that can mobilize and army overnight, it is hard to cope with the seemingly slow-motion rescue effort. What can we do? How can we protest? I want to steal a plane and airdrop bottled water something. How are people living there day to day lives knowing that they are poor people dieing a few states away. I am willing to do anything. I am wondering if we as an industry could do anything. What about at Surf Expo on the 16th, what if everyone donated something for a raffle? That could raise a considerable amount of money.

As of now my plan is to call the coordinators for the event to start the process. If anyone has any ideas, or any contacts to people who are industry people help me get the ball rolling. I hate that all I can do is raise money, but it too is needed. I am also considering going down to help or perhaps squatting capital hill.
Do you think that maybe now people will come protest against our piece of shit president? He had the nerve to say that we should maintain a policy of zero tolerance in regards to people looting for FOOD, and shoes. If there is a Hell, he will burn slowly.

Until then seriously let’s do something, we are probably some of the luckiest people in the world. We should be able to do something.
No pie in the sky, lets just do something. Expo may be a good opp.
Message me privatly or whatever, phones yeah, however, where ever, lets do it. Any pilots out there wanting to help. Not joking.

I think the best thing you can do is donate money. This way the people there helping can disperse the proper supplies in the best way possible. Air dropping food and water would be tough and dangerous. You would have to attach a parachute to the packages or you might cause some serious damage. Plus somebody might not find the package or be able to open it. Also, if it fell on somebody even with a parachute you could definetly hurt somebody. With all the confusing and mass conjestion there it's likely it might hurt somebody, in which case you could get in some serious trouble. I imagine even to drop something would require permission, which I doubt they would give. With the cost of the plane, parachute, packaging and supplies and risk of dropping something it is probably best to hand that money over to the red cross or similiar organization where they have a vast network of people organizing the handouts and experience with this kind of situation. This is probably your best bang for the buck. Plus these organizations know where the money is needed most.

I too have donated money and it's a shame that people are dying and others are looting and causing trouble. As far as putting together relief faster, well FEMA is spending $500 million per day in an effort to help. $500 million PER DAY! Thats just insane. That kind of money doesnt just show up out of nowhere. This disaster is HUGE! Considering the mass confusing and just sheer mass of damage I think they are doing a pretty good job. Just think, many streets you can't even drive down, so many people can not be reached easily. The water is really making things difficult for everybody. Plus there are millions of people that need help. Putting together the money, equipment, and personnel to handle something like this is not easy.

Perhaps another problem is that the military is already mobilized over in Iraq, so out resources are already tapped. Maybe if they werent we would have more equipment and trained people to help out.

I used to be a firefighter, and when I got to a fire scene there was A LOT of work to be done, and we might have between 10 and 30 firefighters at a typical scene. We have had problems getting the truck or equiment close enough to the scene. One time the closest we could get was a 1/2 mile away for a brush fire. Then at any scene you have to take a look at the situation and figure the best plan of action. Sometimes there just isn't enough people to help out either. Many problems can come up at a disaster scene. The hurricane situation is slightly different here, but very similiar in many respects and I can't even imagine that spread out over thousands of square miles. Putting together a plan of action and getting help to those people is an enormous task, especially when the flooding and fires have not stopped.

It looks like they are now starting to pick up the pace with the relief effort and maybe soon they will get those people safe and out of there and start rebuilding everything.

one more thing. doing a raffle is not a bad idea either. You should contact some of the kite companies regarding this. its just a write off for them and they gain press coverage by being involved. put a little website together, donate all proceeds to the red cross hurricane relief or something. put an ad up on kiteforum and other websites. ive seen kite raffles to help raise money for guys that have gotten hurt kiteboarding. this sounds like a good thing to do it for. you could probably get quite a few items to raffle. I might even donate a SS octane to the effort. PM me and let me know if I can help. I'll be at surf expo too.

hey bowers,
why don't you, john the backstabber kerry and cindy sheehan go join the freedom fighters (errr...TERRORISTS) in iraq.

(((you))) r the piece of shit to politicize a natural disaster.

the local officials in that area KNEW this catastrophy was comming some day and still did absolutely nothing to that levy (errrr. pile of dirt) all these years.

the federal gov. couldn't MAKE the local officials upgrade the levy
NOW is not the time to point fingers.

its too bad that you can't keep politics in check.

aren't you from martha's vinyard/cape cod/nantucket area ?

isn't that the area that the kennedy's and others won't let windmills generate power for the area cuz they want their pristine waterfront view?

just like earthquakes, snunami's, wildfires, ect
god has allowed this to happen for a reason and it's not so bush can let poor people die as you asserted.

i hope your insmnia clears up soon cuz it has obviously diminished your thought proccess.

window guy, I feel sorry for you.

Here's this guy wanting to help, and all you do is start bashing him because he said something about your president which you didn't like. Now that's really constructive.

I think we've lost the way a bit here. This isn't a political or religous forum, there are people with a genuine feeling of pain for those who have suffered in this disaster whatever creed or color. People want to help wether a president or local government has done right or wrong ,it does not matter now there are people dying.
If anyone wants to help don't diss them just because you dont agree with them.
Look from space at the earth there is no borders no religion no race just all of us together as one.

Stop all benefits currently given to illegal immegrants
Start drilling for oil in america
Stop all foreign aid
Start deporting guys like bowers to the country of their choice

TV, technology has advance in a way or speed that can not be handle eficiency by humans. The marketing explosion shown in the tv has eroded the moral and values of the human race. Kill the TV, shure it will help but is not going to happen. These are the drawbacks of capitalism and im not a communist nor socialist.
