nice that could be put into some harnesses, but can it float?

D3O is awesome. I got a sample of the material from them, and it literally hardens (rock solid) on impact. It's great for stunt work (which is my gig) and I imagine it would be equally functional as an impact vest on the water. It floats. Actually, come to think of it, I doubt anyone has considered it for kite/wake yet, might be a good opportunity...

Wow, if it floats then i'm sure it will be used for kiteboarding equipment someday soon. The question is the cost.

Tumblemonster did you ask about prices? It should definately be great for impact vests or helmets, or even harnesses.

I broke my ankle a month and a half ago while kiteboarding and I was going through the net a lot searching for stuff and d3o sure looks very interesting for future safety.

Hey Tumblemonster, is d3o light in weight?

I didn't ask about prices, but I will contact them and find out. It seems lightweight, definitely lower density than neoprene, but I don't have a large enough sample to test much further.

I wonder if you could make a board or at least a footpad out of it...

I don't think footpads made of it would be very good. You want them soft on landings, not turning to concrete on every hard landing, that would result in some serious ankle and leg trauma.

travisjonak, d3o doesn't turn hard like concrete.

Looks like a real break through product.
