Definitely 2009 is out there.
After Naish, North and Cabrinha, 2009 RRDs are already flying around.
Passion and the Obsession are the RRDs new models

Looks like it would give a good broad load distribution, without extra webbing, or more cloth layers. So it may help kite be light, responsive, and have less stiching and parts (= cheaper to build). Maybe it makes a little aerodynamic end plate effect by giving a "sharper" transition b/t pressure zones????
Or, it just could be a "gimmick."
It looks a little like the tail fin on an older model:

Ha ha, shoot.
I Don't know who posted these, but I'll comment.
RE: Toby's question about the fitting:
I thought the fitting on the end also looked like a fin off of a fifties car. Maybe that's where Werther (the Designer) got the inspiration.
It basically works like having a y bridle with a pulley, in that it spreads the connection point over a wider area, which keeps the tips from collapsing during hard turning. This is because during those types of turns, the extra cloth wraps around the Bladder a little bit, and disperses the load across the strut. - Did that sound redundant?
-Anyway, The kites are awesome. The passion is the more entry level/freeride kite, it works very well and has a good heap of performance to boot.. They are also very powerful, a 13 is about as big as you'll need. Keep in mind that these are still in Proto stage, the ones we tested in egypt had multiple connection points for bridal testing. These kites, though excellent are still not even ramping up for full production yet.
The Obsession is an evolution of the type 9. Has more pop and low end, still turns super fast. This will be my kite for next year.
And then there's this one other kite they're working on....
Quick question: What do you all think of the color schemes?

As far as I'm concerned...... a total disaster....
Single colour with graphics was so classy....
The new color scheme remind me of the worst wall paper design from the 70s
But it's probably only me

Notice the bridal lines on the leading edge seem twice as long as the Rhino or F One delta .

Yep. Not really an issue. The bridles are so simple that it unsnags as easily as if it were just a 4 line kite that got rolled. We crash tested it plenty to make sure. A mate even let his kite drift through mine and we still got them untangled without any help.
The lines are 23 meters, which is good for the Obsession, and the long bridles on the Passion add another 3 meters to the line length, which is better for low end and predictable power stroke.

I'm not a big fan of the rainbow scheme either... that pink one can give latitude a run for their money...
