How to fix delaminating Brunotti

Postby mopman365 » Thu Jan 11, 2018 12:31 pm

Hey there,

My girlfriend's Brunotti Onyx is hardly used but the plastic top sheet is coming off the rails. Seems to be a problem with the bond between the sheet and painted/printed design (where the sheet meets the raw wood and PVC rail, there's no delamination).

What do you guys think? Should I try to glue the rails back on and what sort of surface prep would be required on the sheet and print/board? Was considering ripping the plastic off completely and recovering the board with 4oz glass, but might not get it off completely as it's well bonded on some sections as mentioned above.

Hi,

dump it. The foil is a part of the structure. It will turn out in an on going story. You will invest in fancy glue's, invest in time, sanding paper and the results might be good, but no guaranty.

Boards are not made to be used for decade's.

tks

Kosta

I hear you, but glues and sandpaper is still much less than a new board. And I get paid well for my time  :naughty:

Although it's a 2013/14 board, judging by the condition of the rails and fins, this board has not had more than 10 sessions in it's life. Was basically new when we bought it and she's used it 3 times.

Any ideas on treating this plastic stuff for epoxy bond?

Hi,

trust me, your hair will turn grey with this. Your girl will tell you that you are too stupid to fix this small ding. No one will hug you when you come after shift, no kisses, your sex live will turn out into a disaster. Take that in consideration. The foil is treated chemical to bond on the blank. You are not able to do this at home.

You want to epoxy it, and if you do it it still will not turn out 100% brand new, but it will look 90% better.

Check out my thread, I have a step by step of how I fixed my delamination, all for under 10 bucks.

Don't let some guy on here tell you what's best with your equipment, you keep your equpment in good shape and it will always take care of you.

I had that exact problem with my Brunotti Dimension (2012 I think... )
- clean the board from salt and sand
- epoxy applied with a paint brush to put some epoxy even at the bottom the of the delaminated area
- clamp it
- as good as new :D
My only mistake was to use non UV resistant epoxy so after a year it became a bit « yellowish » in the areas I fixed. Other than that still holding strong and my brother is still using the board.

I don't know what is happening with Kosta recently :) Oh, I know, cold weather that is :)

Anyways, even if you cut out this piece and splat some good PU varnish instead, it will be ok. Nails lacquer might work :) With some smiley faces for your gf...

Pink glitter nail varnish. :cheer:

She nearly lost a toe on that plastic rail, so I need to sort it out. Will try rough sand, acetone clean and SP115 with some clothes pegs to hold it down. Hopefully I don't end up in that dark cold loveless place described above...

Nah, don't bother with pegs and careful with acetone.

The isopropile alcohol yes. You just need good clamps and semi hard surface on top of this. Something like hard pads on North NTT footpads.

Not rough sand either, but fine coz the scratches will be visible after.
