LW kites usually have different, lighter construction compared to smaller sizes and I know that 15/17 sizes Core XR LW and Turbine are that way. I think 13m Turbine is LW construction, but I’m not sure about XR.
15m is my lightwind kite at my 90 kg weight and 17 is too big for me.
Logically 13m/13.5 should be right size for you, in my honest opinion.
You can always add 10m extensions to your lines for ultimate lightwind riding 13m size
Turbine is amazing kite so is the XR. 13.5 will get you riding in 9-16 knots
I´ve checked on their websites, the 13m Turbine is indeed LW construction, but for the Cores, the LW starts on the 15m. Even doh, I tend to think that the 13.m still being a better choice, is that correct?
I think you’d be fine with either 13.5 m or 15m XR. The smaller kite will feel quicker to turn and will be more freestyle. Sufficient for 10 knots at your weight and flat water riding. The 15m will allow you to ride in as low as 6-7 knots given large door and longer lines, but you’ll struggle flying it when white caps start (16 knots on flat water).
13.5 will be easier to jump with
15 will be better for true LW
You’ll love either of them

no kite is too big for you unless you are like 30kg, it just depends how much wind you get. if your wind is most often around 10 knots a bigger kite like a 17m would be what you want. if its closer to 15 knots in your 10-15 range, a 13 would be good. it just depends.
the guy saying a 17m is too big for him at 90kg clearly lives in a place with decent wind, as im 30kg lighter and would gladly have a 17 in my quiver
I ride all kind of winds from 6-45 knots. I fly smooth winds, I fly gusty winds, I ride flats, I ride rollers. I ride twintip or door or I foil.
My LW size progression was 19m Speed3 Deluxe to 16m NRG to 15m Turbine. An attempt to use 14m Rally as next step down was unsuccessful - the 15m delivered way more power (not because of 1sq.m difference, but rather because of being more efficient LW design)
With too much cloth above you, “overpower” comes earlier and it reduces the wind range for a wing.
I can ride large kites but agility is key for me too and 17m feels too slow, too heavy, not giving me any advantage on the lowend of th wind range.
It’s just a matter of preference and if a 15m XR/Contra/Turbine gets you more fun than a 17m then hell yeah, it’s a simple choice

I got both points. But i also need to take in consideration that I am still a newbie, and I imagine that relaunching a 17m in less then 10kn with a high split V (like the XRs) it is quite tricky, isn't? Also in my place the wind can pick up quite quick and I think with a 17m is more likely to be in a situation that I would need to activate the QR and swim a little bit... I do prefer be closer to "overpower" than "underpower" however too over I would shit myself hahaha. That being said I will look for a 13.5 and a 15LW, lets see what deal I can find out there!

I love a biggish foil for light wind. Low end can’t be beaten and really easy to self-launch and land, plus much less likely to fall out if the sky if wind gets really light. Cons: expensive, require a different skill set.

Yep, once you get used to a giant foil, board choice pretty much becomes irrelevant when considering wind speed.

It depends somewhat on the kite but every kite has a lower threshold for how the regular relaunch technique will work, below that you'll need to pull on a middle line to get the kite to flip upright... can be tricky to do because if it falls on its trailing edge you can be screwed without enough wind to flip it back over. Usually in wind this light I just don't ride because it's too much of a pain in the ass if/when something goes wrong. And it's quite boring anyway
With a bigger kite, it will relaunch easier than a smaller kite in less wind for sure. I usually use a "regular (surfboard/twintip) as a good guide -- if I have enough power to ride it, I can almost always relaunch the kite by pulling a back line. I only get into kite-won't-relaunch or kite-won't-fly-if-i-stop territory with my foil.

Hi again guys. Unfortunely, my plan to get the 13.5 was post poned. However now there is a opportunity to get a 12m xr5 or maybe a gts3 11m.
In both cases i would sell my wainman 10.5 and stay with a quiver of only two kites being 8m and 12m xr5s, or, 8m xr5 and 11m gts3. I know that the 4m gap (8 plus 12) gap isnt the ideal, but what you guys think about? Would cover a wind range of 15ish to about 28 kts? Again, my weight varies from 66 to 68, i tide mostly flat water on a TT.
Thanks
