Had a really nice session at Hoosier Pass on Saturday with my buddy Aaron. With about 6" of fresh snow, it was the best snow conditions I've had all year. Winds were better than average, around 14G28mph - a little holey but not punchy. I was on an 8m, my buddy was riding a 7m and having a blast doing laps. Sounds like they got some more snow on Sun/Mon, so I'm hoping we can keep the accumulation going and maybe have some nice cream corn later in the month.

Grand Mesa trip log

Postby Anthonyshopguy » Sun Apr 22, 2018 4:14 am

[/https://youtu.be/j3gWse2ssjg]Justin messaged me to see if we could go hit the Mesa today forecast called for really light winds but we went ahead and gave it a shot. Justin and I were quite surprised to find 20 mile an hour winds. Fortune luck Smiles on the prepared and sometimes the unprepared. Because we both brought only our biggest kites a 15 meter turbine and an 11.5 Kahuna by Best. As luck would have it we have phone service and a good friend was coming up cross country skiing. I had him grab my 9m Best Nemesis for Justin and I used his kahuna. The wind was out of a very unusual North East Direction Gusty but workable we ended up skiing the entire area from front to back places I've actually never been there. I Eyewitness Justin pulling at least two maybe three power turns with a downward Loop nice work for the first year! I had some of my best lifts ever from advice I was given at IBX. The video is of Justin.

Grand Mesa the mountain that keeps on giving. 16 to 20 MPH winds out of the North east opens up some cool areas that I've not been to before. in just 2 hours put down over ten miles of tracks and set a new PB speed 28 MPH. The Snow is melting in the afternoon and we were skiing a snow ice mix as it hardened. Very fast. But bumpy all these tracks in the snow. Darn I should not have laid those down the other day. :D

Anthony - sounds like you're getting some nice sessions over there - great to hear!

Matt - how are snow condition in your neck of the woods?

Recently, I've had a hankering to check out the west side of Berthoud Pass. I think Aaron and I might check it out on Friday.

Hey Nate,
All the lower elevation stuff is gone. Lizard Head is down to grass at 10,200 ft. Probably got to go way high to 12k but I'll bet it's good up there. I haven't heard progress from the San Juan County plowing but Ouray County has a few jeep roads plowed up over 11k.

Hey Nate, nice report, that looks amazing! I'm been up there gravity skiing only. Isn't a lot of that ridge unfortunately Vasquez Peak Designated Wilderness Area?

Hey Matt, I think you're right. When I was doing my research, all I saw was the Arapaho National Forest.

Thanks for the heads up.
