http://www.kitesurfing-kiel.de/kites/rhino2/index.html

Flight characteristics of the Kites: North continued the concept of the predecessor with the Rhino 2 for the season consistently. Although the new Rhino 2 more stretched works remains the new model the virtues of the predecessor faithfully. Rhino typically stands the Kite as nailed in the sky. The profile is very rigid, Wabbern or Vertwistungen cannot one with the Rhino 2 not observe. Gusts or windloecher can wear to the flight stability of the Rhinos little. The control is very direct and balanced, works however by no means aggressively. Thus the Kite converts only conscious control pulses, which with difficult maneuvers and jumps very helpful is and to which Kite gives a very good-natured flight behavior. The tax and retaining forces were reduced noticeably. Much impressing the power of the Rhino is 2. The Kite has particularly within the upper wind range clearly fewer transverse forces than its predecessor. Although the Kite develops now to considerable power package, he can be out-braked very well and be controlled also with full Depower comfortably. With over power one must out-brake the Kite however additionally over a radical board, since the Rhino 2 possesses a limited Depowerbereich. One can drive the 14ner to good upper 5 Bft. comfortably, however over it one point comes then relatively suddenly, where the Kite is to be only restrained on the water. At the latest here nerves and ability are in demand. But exactly this power is it, which the Rhino 2 an impressing jump machine become to let. The elevator is overwhelming and already in the middle wind range convincingly. In contrast to the Rhino 1 one can catapult oneself with the new Kite nearly already spielerisch into the upper floors. Owing to the balanced and calm control one does not make an error also with daring cheats in air so fast. The Kite carries one fullly, for a long time and gently by air. Here the Rhino 2 makes fun correct and has substantially more achievement than its predecessor.

Equipment, accessories: The processing of the Kites corresponds to the used North standard and resembles in nearly all points the old Rhino or Toro. One finds only high-quality and durable materials. The front tube is more finely segmented and also the panel consists of clearly more parts. The Quertubes has a new Design and at the end likewise an aerodynamically improved Design. The lattentaschen at the tips are now strengthened and the slats can be removed. A swinging out rescue grasp on the inside of the tips is new and pfiffig. Otherwise the Rhino 2 is rather easily designed. Without additional reinforcement or Gimmicks one did. As trim option the Kite possesses an additional starting point for the tax linen. Bar was not available yet.

Recapitulatory result: The Rhino 2 made very much fun. Unfortunately we could make ourselves of the achievement within the lower wind range still no picture. Nevertheless one regains 2 very many character characteristics of the predecessor with the Rhino. The Kite is good-naturedly and easy to control. Within the upper wind range strongly on the deficits of the old model one worked. Here the Rhino becomes 2 the Hochleistugstriebwerk, which sets new yardsticks in the air space despite limited Depower.

Nice testing but it doesn't say much! How is the turning speed of the Rhino 2 compaired to the X2?

What's the difference between the Rhino 2 and the X2! The Rhino 2 came later on the market and therefore should be better or at least as good as the X2!?

Has anyone experience with bigger sizes of the Rhino 2? Does it have more low end power than the X2? Ideal would be more low end power end the same turning speed as a X2 but that's perhaps reaching for the stars!

I think Ken Winner has already given us enough information to know those answers. Re-read his reply to our questions. When you combine this information with the x2 reports being posted by others, you get a good idea of what to expect.

I expect more low end, and less apparent wind generated than with the x2. I see it as a slightly less radical design, yet still of the highest performance. This is my opinion.

why does it even matter if it turns as fast in the x2. Kites are now at a stage where turning speed is at a level more than adequate. A kite that pulls is going to be far better for anyone wanting to kite well than an old man kite like the x2. The Rhino2 will be faster than the rhino which will be fast enough. Just a pity north insist on using panels running parallel to the kite which mean the kites will still stretch prematurely and tear under impact easier than other kites.

My 10m toro stretched significantly within a few overpowered sessions and that isn't good enough considering the cost of a kite. It should still hold some of its resale value though because it hasn't torn in half yet and must be one of the only north kites in my area not to do so.

Dwight,
FYI, Olli(webmaster) says additionally in a forumpost ( http://f23.parsimony.net/forum51792/messages/37179.htm ) that the Rhino2 flies as fast as the Toro.(Olli himself owns a couple of Toro's)

X2 is a very flat kite. Excellent at the top end, and excellent jumping when everything is set up perfectly in a good gust. Rhino2 is a bit gutsier, particularly at the low end. Rhino2 has the predictable pull of the toro, but has sick boostability over a wider windrange, particularly on the lower end of things. The bigger rhino2's are as quick turning as anything out there, the smaller sizes turn fast enough.
