Toby,
March is in the middle of our windy season. Traditionally, we have frontal winds on the order of once every 3 to 7 seven days. The winds move clockwise through compass directions with useable winds for the event ranging from N to E to S. Our winter fronts freqently have a day to several days for more of moderate to strong to ocassionally very strong NE winds. Hopefully winds will be at least 10 to 15 mph but could easily be 15 to 20 mph. Wind events up into 20 to 25 mph or higher occur at odd intervals throughout the winter.
So the short answer is that there is a good chance for nice, useable winds based on historical patterns say as opposed to June when the likelihood of good winds is low.

Hi Rick,
I checked at
http://www.wetteronline.de the winds for Miami these days and I also looked at Key West. The keys look like they are having lots of winds when there is nothing at SoBe. Does Key West have in general good winds? Or is it just coincidental?
Greetings

Toby,
The winter weather in the eastern USA and for that matter even in Western Europe has been a bit milder than normal so far this year. The number and severity of fronts coming down from the northwest has been lower than normal, to date. Fortunately, as of the last week it looks like things may be going back to a more normal pattern. We had several days of useable wind in the last week. I too have noticed that winds in the middle to lower Keys has been up. During certain times of the year winds are often stronger in the Keys but it is still a bit early for the normal higher wind pattern to kick in. March is often a windy month in SE Florida, including both Miami and the Keys. Hopefully the normal pattern will hold this March as well.
