There are many good kites and boards.
I did not try everything but 4-5 kites.
A friend of mine just began kiting this year. I recommended him (83kg) an AERO 16 and he has been learning very quickly on it, he is already ripping and last weekend he made his first jumps. I also used that kite several times and I love it.
As a board I recommend a big mutant; I got the Naish Mutant 5'5 and am very happy with it.

p.s. If possible, you should definitly try as many kites as you can...
