I am looking at a few boards and was wondering what difference a narrower axle width does to riding characteristics?? Which type of trucks are better for salt watersand riding?..skateboard or spring type? Any and all help welcomed..

Lemur,
A narrow truck will make it easier for you to power slide the board but at speed it will make in it more unstable and you will get speed wobble. Depending on weight I would go for a sprung truck over a skate truck, they are better to damp down and will give you better options as you progress. UK made Trampa decks will give you loads of spring and pop, nice for free style.
There are loads of boards out there check as many as you can out.
