The Day After Hurricane Frances

Postby RickI » Thu Sep 09, 2004 11:56 pm

It was extreme and for those of us that sat it out as it blasted through the state, it was something we could easily live without. I went by the ocean checking on some buildings to see how they fared during the hurricane. I took some photos along the way. Looking forward to deep sixing most of these hurricane articles soon. In the meantime, here are some photos:

Delray Beach. The waves are breaking over the third reef double head high or higher in about 90 ft. off water.

A view down the beach with all the detritus blown and washed up.

Nearshore surf going off.

More waves breaking well offshore.

A view down Ft. Lauderdale Strip to the south, the day after.

I have more photos on a microdrive but am having trouble reading them with using this old laptop. You don't see any kiteboarders or surfers because the police were chasing people off the beach and had locked down the barrier island to residents only the day after.

The damage was relatively minor at this latitude unlike a bit further north in the central, northern parts of Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast where stronger, more sustained winds came through. Good luck to everyone with the cleanup and recovery.
