Hi guys
I am the anonymous who told about the upper wind-range of 9.5 and 12.5 PSYCHO.
Later in this day, i had the answer.
I was in, on Psycho 9.5 in 23 Knots with 0-15% depower on.
I am 63kg and my board is Loose Ex 138.
Easily my jumps was continiusly above 6 sec. although it is my first foil and i have it only one week.
I agree with Mark that for the lower wind-range you must be very sensitive with smooth handling.
I was jumping 1-2 metres in 10-13 Knots.
I think that it covers more wind-range than the two inflatable i had before (Black tip 7.0 and 9.4).
I am still searching 'HOW IT WORKS' but i feel that it is the most powerfull, and forgiving kite i've ever ride.
I LOVE PSYCHO

Marc,
"The warrior 9.3 was already a 10-25 knot kite with a 160 cm board... 15-30 knot kite with a wakeboard..."
I'm a big guy and am still learning. most of my limited experience has be in 18 - 20 knots steady with a 10M tube larger dir., so start and general riding has always been pretty powered up (read-less technical. pull in bar and hang on)
I then tried the warrior 9.3 on a very gusty day in Perth WA where it would do 5 knots then gust to 12 even 15 knots (215 dir) but couldn't make things happen. I just didn't seem to have the power. There was a girl on a 10 or 12 m tube that did get going somewhat so some wind was there.
That is the motivation behind my original question.
Another question to the thread, is the psycho more well "psycho" that the warrior (read nervous, less stable and or forgiving)? does anyone know if the will WAC to warrior as well (pardon the pun)?
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,
The conditions you tried the warrior in were not really fair conditions. When I say 10-25 knots on a 160 board, that means a steady 10 knots or a steady 25 knots. If you have winds that are gusting 8-12 knots you won't be going upwind. Usually a wind range like 10-25 knots means lulls down to 10 gusts up to 25.
Also most beginner tubes will have more low end power than the warrior. Compare the warrior more with inflatables like the X2 or Mach1. The warrior develops power by flying faster. Thats where it gets its large windrange from. As do the X2, Mach1, etc...
Try the warrior again one day when it is blowing 18-20 knots and you will get a better feel for it.
The psycho is more psycho than the warrior. Due to the higher aspect ratio and more pointy tips, the psycho is faster and not as stable as the warrior. But both kites water relaunch the same and launch the same, so from that perspective there is no difference as in high performance/beginner tube kites.
As to WAC on Warrior, we will have to wait a bit. I think Flysurfer is adding a WAC system to the large warriors, but the little warriors already work really well so there is no need to add a WAC system.
Best regards,
Marc

flysufferer.
unlike the warriors the physios really do have a best bar position, you can feel by the bar pull if you have too much or too little depower.
in gusty winds the bar movement can feel weird after the warriors and i've found that they are definately best ridden on full depower. by that i mean you trim them with the strap so you can comfortable hold onto about 3 inches short of full depower at the bar.
as the gusts come you just let the bar roll out of your hand and against the gust absorber 'rubber lump' which gently takes the slap out of the canopy.
like the warriors these work best on full depower, ie go out on them massively overpowered.

So, please correct me if I am wrong. If I am understanding previous posts, you have to unsheet in order to turn (can't turn while you are sheeted in during a jump in order to redirect the kite)? This seems opposite to LEIs and Arcs. This may only take an hour or two to get used to, but would be difficult to go back and forth. Are you Psychos out there going to stick to just the Psychos, or will you still fly LEIs on occasion?

Hello,
No that is incorrect. The flysurfers turn much better when the bar is pulled in for full power. What he is saying(marc), and that i can atest to(i had a warrior 9.3), is that you said the warrior 9.3 was not powerful enough for you, you said you are a big guy, and the warrior 9.3 is not a very powerful kite, it is better suited for 14 knots or more, and in those light winds, very few kites work
The flysurfers are even more amazing when you are powered up, it is really fun to use them at full power. Well, in any case, my warrior 9.3 is sold, and now i have a 12.5 psycho which looks very nice in construction, attention to details, bar, colors, etc. I can't wait to try it.
Try a flysurfer, if you have an open mind, and you are willing to learn to use it, you will love it

Hej Alan,
I haven't quite figured out the sheeting effect on steering, but it seems like when you pull the bar all the way in, the kite responds slower. I think it is because when you pull the bar all the way in the kite gets slower, it still turns just as fast, but it's flying slower.
I think this is perfect, because when you are in the air and sheeted in, you are usually doing some sort of trick. If the kite is too fast then you have the risk of flying the kite wrong and getting spanked.
It is a cool kite because it is very fast when you want it fast and slow when you want it slow. I haven't flown any other kites like it. Most kites are either slow (good for learning tricks, but limiting when you get better) or fast (fun to fly but hard to learn tricks on). The psycho seems to be fast when you are cruising and when you sheet in it gets slow.
Best regards,
Marc

flysufferer:
marc is spot on with his summation.
bar all the way in, more power slow kite, bar just a bit in, fast turn fast kite, full depower and full trim strap, slack lines and lazy unresponsive kite, but once it starts to turns on full-full depower it takes off like a bullet.

Have not had the Psycho 12.5 at full power with trim yet, so far up to 22 knots, and no need for the trimmer. I am 75 kg, ride a 150 AX from loose.
Yes the kite is more responsive when slightly de-powered. It takes some getting used to, as at the beginning of the jump it pops you up nicely, but then during the jump it wil come back much faster if you let the bar out a bit. So for long loaty jumps, just keep the kite fully powered, while turning it slowly into the power. If you are not high enough, just let out the bar a bit and it moves faster, so that it will be in front of you pulling on landing...
