Underground boards?

I was out riding tonight, winds blowing 13 or so. Kind of light. I have a 16 X2 and ride a 6' Hanacrew Doublevision. I weigh 210 lbs. Now, all that's out of the way. I am a pretty proficient kiter (been beating the hell out of myself for 2 1/2 years) and normally stay well upwind and love jumping. I had to fight to only go a little ways downwind. Upon arriving back to the launch area (where everyone else had given up too), I saw someone with a 148 Underground Smorgasboard. I borrowed it from him and took it out for a spin. I was amazed. I was able to plane out and go upwind immediately. Not only was I able to scream along just fine, I could jump as well. And the board felt extremely light. Was I just suffering from some sort of exertion induced delusion, or are those boards really as good as I've heard (and now think I've seen)? I would be curious to hear how well this board handles higher wind. Would it be too loose at 20 or does it really matter. Thanks in advance for the info!

I have a "copy" of the SB. Same thickness ,rails and outline and a little more rocker.
Its the more borrowed board I ever have!!
When is light everybody wants to ride it.
In light and medium winds it rocks, love big kites and goes upwind like hell.
Range:8-15 (I weight 170).

I rode the SB all summer. I called it my secret weapon. It really does add 2-3 knots of power to a kite. I loved the board. It worked good in waves too, as long as they weren't real big. When our big wave season hit this fall, I finally sold it and had a wave tray built the same size.

Whenever the wind was light, guys would ask to use the shop demo SB. It was red and we nicknamed it, the big red donkey. One local rider started making his own board and decided to call his company the big donkey. People around here fell in love with the red donkey.

You should buy the SB. Adrian at Underground is a big guy like you, that's why the board is so sweet.

I'm 184 lbs and rode it up to 18-20 mph, then my legs would tire out. It would hold the edge in more wind, but if I stayed on the board, my legs would be burned out in 2 hours.

Thanks for the input. Once again today the wind was light and I was wishing I'd already bought that board. Glad to hear that you had good experiences with it. Now, if I can only convince the wife that I REALLY need it!:D

can anyone tell me the size of the smorgasboard ? Is it a twintip ?

Yes it's a TwinTip, it's 148cmx43cm. with no turned up tips like the wavetray's...

Any idea when this "magic carpet" is coming out? I'd sure like to get rid of my 7'8" Jimmy Lewis directional. I never really learned to jibe it and I would prefer something not so huge. People really get a chuckle to see me doing backloops with it, but I'd prefer not to break my ankles if I land it wrong! It's great for light wind, but maybe underground can solve this one too! It sure would be easier to ride 2 underground boards instead of a Hanacrew twin and a monster directional. Talk about having to adjust styles!

G'day, I am not sure if they will be stocked in shops or not, sceen as though they're a "specialised" board. Mine is due in a couple of weeks - so they're already making them to order.

I forgot to say as well, underground have a new construction for extra lightweight boards, which is a good option for larger boards like this to keep the weight down...

anyone got the light weight custom version of the Wave tray (or other undergrounds)? is it as durable as the standard version? worth the money?

I have sceen one, and I asked underground about the durability. Adrians answer was it's just as tough, unless you intend on riding over rocks.

Just how light it is I don't know yet - If you don't get any other replies send me an email and I'll let you know what i think of the construction when I get my board.
