Once you notice the potential of an "oh sh*t" moment, line break, line tangle, lines reversed, crazy gust...whatever... you need to pull the release ASAP. It is difficult to release during the event. There is a small window of opportunity to save yourself. Some people will only learn from mistakes and have be reminded the hard way...hopefully they will survive when it happens and don't make the same mistake twice.

There is something good to be said about the launch/land unhooked method. it does make sense. If you are not unhooked during a launch, you should be ready & thinking about the release. be ready. keep the kite low & to the side of the window and get out on the water quickly.

I wonder why some release pins pull down (ss/dwn), and others pull up (cabrinah/up). Too bad there isn't a standard set direction so they all pull the same way.

I agree in essence NJKite, my issue is that without practice and intent, it may not happen. The brain will only react with what it has been trained to do and for most it is hold the bar. unhooked with release training does make sense especially when some of the safeties I see just do not work!!

when things go bad
there isnt time, period
to pull the release
ANY OF THEM

experience isnt always enough

self launch
and landing to a lesser extent
are false prophecies of security
you need a partner to launch and land
one that knows kiting

you f*** up you pay
period

I know I did today
ripped kite, cut lines
jammed shoulder and cuts
my bar was backwards
too bad I was looking at the kite
I was on a 11.6 in 30+
had been out for a sess, decided to come in and adjust
that went good,
self launch went
UGLY
I'm lumped up
but ok
the release was an afterthought
i drove the kite down to save my ass
and thankfully had plenty of room
missed a building by 10 feet

Well damn, you didn't manage to avoid the risk gottmore,,,

Retard, (this is the safety freak disclaimer for the dead people)

They still indorse kite(sales meetings) nites?

You see the risk is TOTALLY manageable now.

Ask tom 183,,,gottmore is a retard, an abberation kiting is totally safe, you just manage the risk it's so doable,,only retards die and or get crippled.

you just manage the risk, if you don't your a retard, deserve to be dead.

Simple
LETS HAVE A KITE NITE

WE will show some cool vids, serve hot dogs, talk bout safety (we have package deals> zero to hero in 3 days)

THAT"S right we can show you how to be safe, but only if you pay us,,,

Good news you can apply your lesson cost to a full quiver package,,,

That's 5 kites three boards, harness slider park tickets and a fucking free vid,,,,smoking deal,,, did I mention stickers? and a poster for your room?

spread the news a new kind of love is here.

Just sign this release form and your on your way,,,,

This is how we're going to go down,,,,three at a time,,,four hours apart,,
five days a week,,52 weeks a year,,,

You do the math,,,

How many retards does it take to get us banned,,,,?

Don't matter,,they'll cash up till it happens,,,,

Spread that love retards.

fokiten

PS. this thread title should be " are you ready to sign this release form?"

you can't be a hero if you don't,,,,,you want to be cool right?

PPS<<>> you see if gottmore had taken our lesson we would have showed him how to hold the bar,,,poor sap was to retarded to take the lesson,,,now he's dinged up,,tsk,,tsk,, we cover that in our package,,,

it won't happen to you,,,Ahem,,,fucking sign this and we can get you started....

Gotmoore,
sorry to hear about your kite, you made it in one piece, that's what counts.

now I ask, why is NW FL a stagnant shit hole, and you guys get all the wind? This is all FL! Share some will you?

My QR story:
Last summer I was goofing around while self landing and trying to flip the kite LE down to stick it to the sand and it kept bouncing up.

Little shit for brain goblins on either shoulder, trying to out-shout each other "do it, do it, you can do it!"

Of course, the slack in the steering line I had just pulled snags the bar and starts to send the kite up.
Seeing this, I anticipated, and with-in the time I could say "oops release" I was jerked to the sand.
I thought, OK, stupid, but no big deal.
I then paced off the distance from standing to skidmarks and I counted 20 paces, tossed about 20m in one second, and this was when knowing what was coming and ready to pull.

I always do 2 QR check releases prior to launch.

Like Toby says, some people think it's too inconvenient.
Practice using the QR, don't be afraid of it.

But practicing during a kite loop? that takes balls!
then I ask, why even do kite loops at all?

I hear you.

Now it is interesting that even in a case where you released your safety instinctively you still went 20 mtrs. guys just have to know that if they think their safety is just going to work one day when they need it, think again. Imagine adding a second of ohh shit + 20 mtrs, a second of f&*k I can't find the release (+20 mtrs) and possibly, f&*k it doesnt work "perhaps I should have tested it earlier".

Practice releasing on water or in a hot case you will be traveling at least 60 mtrs before you do (any direction), if it works and if you find it.

Good to see you activated it KiteGlider and bailed.

Gotmoore, sorry to hear about your incident, I too have policies, no self launch no self land. If in doubt let it out! On the water!!

wet person and kite dry out!!! don't try to keep the kite dry to risk it!

Thanks Guys

yep
a week later, and my elbow still doesnt go above my shoulder

the whole incident should have been avoided
and could have been easily

i didnt have a problem coming in
someone caught the kite

After I made some adjustments
Everyone right there was out

last guy syndrome

I could have walked down beach about 250 yards
but I was too lazy ( and confident)

I also didnt preflight again
my lines had a front back twist ( inside out)
careless mistakes

the second i grabbed some bar
the lines went tight
I knew I had a problem
but it was already too late
bounce, bounce deeper in the window

stuporman
