there was no event in cancun, it was cancelled

that's a pity, must be a nice kitebeach.
I went there before, but I wasn't kitesurfing then - unfortunately.
Next year? Why was it cancelled?

They couldn't get the sponsors, and I think the wind conditions weren't that great.

Don't worry about sponsors next year.
Compare it to snowboarding: at the beginning they were alone and after 3(?) years they had more sponsors than skiing.
Keep monitoring this forum and read the reports about crowded beaches and events.
Then you can tell what will happen next year.
