I actually utilize a dual system of a Wichard 2673 and a Wipika loop release.
One time I forgot to shackle and started riding hooked in the loop and on a particularly bad jump, my loop dropped out and the kite powered up to the point I couldn't get back in. I had to release to the leash.

I think premature ejections  are almost as bad as sticky releases. You want the system to hold you in without flaw and release without flaw when you need it to.

Were you using the Wipika straight tube (term?) to hold the loop on your hook? The problem you descibe with unintentional unhooking is one of the main reasons I went to the QR Shackle. I was hoping the Wipika style QRL overcame that nasty little problem.

Hello everybody sorry form my bad english
BUT
In german kitemagazin NR. 6 oktober november 2002 (not kite-boarding.de just kitemagazin) btw in my oppinien best kite magazin
is QR test very very exact and detailed

AND the result is: (I only write QRL)

Brand - relase force by load 1000N/2000N

Naish - 147N/147N

Wipika system:

Gaastra 397N/733N
Wipika 407/514N
Takoon NA/NA - They broke "trigger"!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So the they wrote wipika system is in fact useless and very dangerous because noone can pull 733N (73Kg) in panic situation

Flysurfer -velcro system:
54N/125N

Only for comparation Wichard shackle
33N/46N

My note:
The kritic point on B&J QR the pulling ball
and scare about finger is on this QR very clean solute. But my english is to weak to explain it. Please see pictures on flysurfer.de.
Only disadvantage for me on FS QR is - havenot system for fix it on hook (like wipika) So ideal QRL util now dost exist

I own have Naish and Flysurfer and i can tell :

Naish QR has very unpredictible behavior
Sometimes is relase power very weak and its easy to relase. And sometimes i need both hands and is almoust unreasable. I have not "problematic knot" on naish.
Importaint!!!:
My girlfriend was unable to relase it. (while bodydraging)

Flysurfer QR

Very weak relase power
very easy to relase looks very safety

Only problem for me they have not rope for fix on hook and is uconfortable big for me i like small chicken loop and thisone is realy big.

At the end:

I thing is better place QR device to hook harnes like on chicken loop.

Reasons:

Posibility relase both chicken and fixed loop
And no need to buy extra QRL on every new kite.

Flysurfer chicken loop has no problems it's 100% safe. I only use that system and it can be attached to any kite bar. It's the only system I use. I'm only fly flysurfer and they are the masters in safety issues. I haven't had any problem what so ever with this. This system is safe and reliable. Go for it.

No,

That tube was cut off when I got the bar. It actually is better IMO because I think that tube would get in the way of hooking in easily when you're ready to get in the water or if you need to hook back in after releasing to the leash.

Yes, the retention tube would have probably prevented the loop from dropping out if I had it available.

In all honesty, I use this system because I just bought the shackle and didn't want to discard it so fast in favor of the releasing loops. Anyone else find any disadvantages to doubling up this way? It seems to do everything I need it to.

Sorry for me bad english

I wrote the post about relase power in German magazin etc...

In my opinien until now best QR is Prolimit see:

http://www.pro-imit.nl/2002/displayitem ... tem_id=235

Reasons:
You are only hook "nonshackle" -So launching is safer
It relase both chicken and fixed loop
it has fix place on your harnes no need to find any ball or loop or anything
no need to buy QR with every new kity or test and learn function and reliabity

Only problem for me: no possiblity fix chicken loop to unwanted drop while jump or relaunching in water

I wellcome your opinnion about QR

My buddy had his hook break off the pivot last week last week while riding. So the construction may need to be improved, still I'm going to keep using mine. This is the only one I know of that has broken
Only problem for me: no possiblity fix chicken loop to unwanted drop while jump or relaunching in water
Some body posted a great idea on this forum last week where you tie some plastic tubing to the straight part of the hook, problem solved

How do you jump rotations and untangle the lines with a non-shackled QR solution and at the same time staying attached to your permanent safety (so the kite does not hurt others)?
