No whip backrolls.. how do you land em?

Postby Handle Punk'd » Fri Jan 07, 2005 4:15 pm

Hey Guys,
been going for nowhip/wakestyle backrolls lately keeping the kite at 45deg.

While I managed to keep the kite stable while taking off my front hand, After the rotation, I keep landing em flat on my chest!

Anyone knows what am I doing wrong? am i overotating them into a revert??

Also the rotation feels pretty fast and I feel myself parallel to the water most of the time... am I not getting enough/ the right pop?

cheers!

Sounds like you don't get high enough, because you don't load up well enough?

I assume you land at your back in the water?

1. aim downwind to gain speed
2. load up - stretch your lines - create linetension by turning upwind a bit
3. edge and turn upwind more and you should take off

Start doing this. Just make small wakestyle jumps of the water to get the timing and feeling right. The better your timing, the higher your jumps.

Good luck! :bye:

Take off your back hand (the one you use to pull the kite to jump). When you are about to land.
Not your front. (the one you use to bring the kite back fwd)
It will give you more balance.

I agree with the comments above that you are probably not getting high enough and you should take your back hand off (not your front).

Be sure you are fully powered. Keep the kite higher ..maybe at 11 oclock and you will have more lift during your jump. As you get better you can keep the kite lower. Your biggest problem should be over-rotation where you find yourself going around a second time.

Have fun

when you start going around lift your legs up, all the while looking over your front shoulder. hang from that CL like you are sitting in a chair. when you spot you landing extend your legs and straighten your body to your normal riding posture, that will slow your rotation. as soon as you hit the water dive that kite forward so you ride off powered.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Went out for yet another punishing session today!!
Not doing em unhooked yet but will try when the wind/balls permits..

Funny that I can do raleys unhooked and get really decent height but not proper pop while hooked in always

Will try more tomorow. and maybe drive my backfoot more..
least I can rotate fully on both sides now.. just end up crashing and not knowing where the kite is sometimes! But definitely feeling closer to busting the move... I hope.. haha!

..keep the kite a little higher, ride a little overpowered (or atleast powered), and then try....it'll go by itself...

a.

Nailed it!!!!
Thanks guys! it was fun! :thumb:

Worked on getting more pop by using my progessive edge before I rolled rather than working on the rolling part
