Windwing Rage II

Postby windshreder » Sat Dec 25, 2004 4:42 am

I tested the Rage 2 last week.
In size 14, 12 and 10 m.

The kites are very good with good hang time, soft landings, outstanding depower, better depower than ANY other kite (no BS). The construction looked bomb proof.
Relaunch was fantastic. I crashed the 14m intentionally about 20 times and it was hard to keep it from relaunching by itself. Only once was I able to get the kite to fill up straight downwind and even from that position it was a breeze to relaunch.
The kites were fitted with the CC SAFE bar and SAFE system.
I also tested the Windwing reverse relaunch (jumpstart) and I do think it is better than the RECON (RECON IS a good system)
I was able to relaunch in seconds without any trouble at all. It is a hot launch like RECON though.
I prefer 5th line for relaunch though. It is equipped with the fittings.
The spinning bar and spinning leash worked great. The bar was asymmetrically shaped to allow you to feel if it is right without looking. I was quite impressed with it. The line sets are quite nice also, color coded and a nice thickness.
The CC bar stays where you put in in the high friction mode and will move somewhat easier in the low friction mode. I think it is best suited for those who prefer wakestyle ad it is easy to have constant power. The B safe bar is more traditional and allows easier sheeting. I think it is more suited to overpowered or gusty conditions.
Overall excellent quality and predictable flying with outstanding relaunch.
FYI. I priced a 17, 12 and 8 at less than $1500 plus a bar.

Dear windshreder,
Is the depowering on/off or more like sheeting as we know from windsurfing?

Has anyone else experience with this kite?
Can anyone tell how it is compered with new style kites such as Wook 3 or RRD type wave?

What kites have you flown/owned before.
WHo do you work for or have a bias for...if any.

I just find it odd that you were able to fly all three sizes in the same week. interesting quiver...do you have every size?

Just trying to get a real read here. thanks

I fly Wip 10m Globerider Lift 12 and Curl 18m.
I have owned Norths, F-ONEs, Wipika, Amp, Wip, Matrix.

Boarding Bob from Windwing was here on vacation for about three weeks. He was letting all of the Stuart, Ft Pierce, and Jupiter locals ride all of the Windwings he had with him. Thanks Bob.
I am an airline pilot and have no interest in any kite brands...
I may be testing the 2005 globerider curl next week if all goes well.
I will post my observations.

Thanks windshreder.

I figured you must have been demo'ing.

How does the SAFE system feel when jumping. If you were to let the bar slide all the way up when you are in the air, would you drop like a stone, or am I mis reading that system (using my own bar, but utilizing the safe bridal deal)???

thanks for posting your relation or lack there of with WW

The SAFE system is completely transparent when riding unless you sheet out all the way. And i mean ALL THE WAY.
The bar does not slide up using the CC SAFE bar. It is like a Cabhrina powerlock but stops anywhere you leave it. The b safe bar, as I recall will not release completely either. (please correct me if I am wrong Bob.) I prefer to use a non friction setup.
You could use your own bar as long as you have about 24 inches of chicken loop to fully depower the kite. The bars are not that expensive
( about $120), I would get oneif I was getting a WW kite for sure. The spinning leash is really nice! Bob told me he has one more enhacement to maketo the bar. I think its great the way it is now.

Ordered 2 WindWing Rage2s and a bar with lines on the 12th of Jan.

They shipped them on the 14th and they arrived today in Sweden by Fed Ex, too bad i missed them!

Hope the kites are good, at 1450usd and 10 days free delivery to Sweden its amazing good service.

Will at WW answered my questions promptly via e-mail and web telephone.

I am not working for anyone! Gotta get a drysuit to go out in the 40f temps...

Regards, Tom
