I would like to try land kiting...
Is it common to use a smaller inflatable for this... or is that to powerful?

no its just a stupid choice when foils perform better and are safer.

inflatables in the right hands are just as good on land providing you do not crash that often and you can pick em up cheap second hand

TNT what kind of land kiting are you talking about... buggying,jumping,scudding,mountain boarding...?
