You learn something new everyday. I had NO idea that guys were tow-in surfing in SE Florida. So if pictures don't lie, here's proof. It is a high res live cam shot that shows about TEN guys under tow by wave runners in SE Florida, USA. I concluded this was a station in California until it started to look familar. I did some more checking and damn if it isn't a bit north of my own area.
A thumbnail of the full image.

Very. I hope to speak to him tomorrow about what happened. He is one of the few kiteboarders that I have heard about who saved his bacon with a hook knife. Some of us carry them for just in case. He actually carried the day with his. It makes sense to preserve your option to try to cut out as opposed to blowing off your ability to even try by failing to carry a knife.
This was also the same weekend Neil had his leg fractured going through a big wave off of Jupiter as well.

This is an image from the site themasochist gave the link for:
With the caption: "The Day of Days? April 17, 2005. Is this the
heaviest wave ever ridden on the East Coast?
You tell us if you've seen anything knarlier
and if so forward the photo or video evidence."

It's news to me as I missed out on the whole thing being out of state at the time. I had no idea the heavy stuff came through.
How did you like towing in off Florida? Did you guys pick up your tows back in the inlet or from the water off the beach at times? Also, was anyone using footstraps?

We got back from lunch and the medics were wrapping up Neil1 on the beach; someone said he was smoking on the stretcher. Meanwhile Hamish1 was on a surfboard strapless with a Slingshot towing out through huge sets
and doing a coast run down to Juno Pier. Waves were coming out of the horizon and Hamish was a tiny figure way outside going down huge faces.
Sublime.
Looking forward to details on fellow cocooned in his lines, cutting himself free with hooknife. Thanks
