Epoxy surfboards for kiting and surfing?

Postby Andres_Santacruz » Tue May 17, 2005 6:31 am

I had lots of fun with a surfboard and my 16 in light winds the other day, and i want to get a surfboard. I want something i can kite with and surf with. I can surf ok with longboards, never gotten up on short boards. I weigh 82 kg and am 182 cm tall. I am looking exclusively at http://www.surftech.com and http://www.boardworkssurf.com epoxy boards because of their durability. I get a better price on boardworks, so if any of these is highly recommended, please let me know.
I like the shape of the yancy spencer fish boards, Casey mc crystal bump squash and semi fish, Mike Hynson fish boards, steve walden compact disc.
For the surftechs, i guess the ones sold at realkiteboarding.com are the ones that work, since they test them a lot.
I would like to hear your suggestions.
BEst winds,
Andres Santacruz

Look at these. Made at the same factory as surftech and half the price. Different lay up and heavier, but cheap!

Good enough for most people. They sell like candy around our beaches.

Mi querido Andres for your fat ass I'd recommend you:

Surfing: 7' 10"
Kite surfing: 6'0"

....and that way I also can get to ride them both :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

those boards are made out of some sort of plastic. super durable, but heavy as! maybe twice the weight of an epoxy surfboard.

i haven't tried one, but they look like they would surf like sh#t. but then again, they are relatively inexpensive and you could be the crap outta 'em. :thumb:

Hey Tweekster, looks like they weigh around 4 kg. That doesnt seem like that much, and i really am a poor surfer, so maybe i wouldnt even notice the difference.

Hey everyone, the BoardWorks website was mislabeled above, it is:

http://www.boardworkssurf.com

You can also link there through the Cabal DC website,

http://www.cabaldc.com

Spencer and McCrystal the two most popular for kiting.

Thanks,
WB

I use the bic 5'10" strapless. That board kills it. It's made of plastic and it's only $260. I think they have some stiff epoxy boards with ASA also, but a touch longer. It's a good weight and takes an absolute beating. I broke my Nsp on the third day... get the bic! http://www.bicsurfboards.com

Bah!

Andres,
I picked a 6'6" squash from NSP
nice board, but a little rockered for me
the layup will last better than surftech for sure
the NSP's still need a full deck pad
and get rid of the poly carb fins (plastic)
they really suck- i put carbon fins in -
a world of difference
for kiting I'd go for the 5'6" fish
if I has to do it over
but Dwight is right they are about 299 US retail

it gets little use since i got the Rocket fish
the fish is faster
easier to get on plane
and more versatile
although it doesnt surf worth a damn
