On Monday (18 Mar) and American, Mike, had a video camera on a 20-30M line run up a one-line kite on the western edge of kitebeach. I heard another person speaking of a cam, but only saw this one fixed location kite flying.

Hey Jim, how does your board perform?
Did you give it to the Germans for a test and report in the mag?

Eeeeech...I didn't like it much. It wasn't the 'easy-for-first-timer' idea I had in my mind, so I gave it away to Tito - the one leg kiter.
Franzy Orly had given given him a kite (about 8M I think) and he would lay on an old surfboard, holding on with one hand. The very second time he tried my ROKET he got upwind. (it is easier for him to kite his gear than walk upwind - with only one leg!)
I have another design to play with here, but more importantly - I can now get up on my own regular kite gear.
I think something like the ROKET can be done in plywood, but I have no commercial interest in it.
Made properly in HDPE, rotomoulded like a whitewater kayak - would cost about $20,000 for the moulds and $40. a unit for the board. I'm not sure the 'community' would have any interest in it.
The guys at the magazine know about it, and about the one-legged kiter. It may make a simple 'human interest' story. He is a great example to anyone who thinks maybe this is too hard.
I'll post more about Cabarete when I get some time to compose my thoughts. Quite simply: a fantastic week.
Jim
