Nah that was my fault. not Toby's.

Airush Switch 156, 11.9 RRD, wind was about 20 knots.

The wind was plenty, but I have a hard time with everything.

Its really hard for me to get my feet in, while keeping the kite parked up above. Its just really hard cuz when your sitting there, its hard to keep from having the direction your facing being Changed. Is this normal?

Ok
Don't keep the kite at zenith but to one side, in the direction you'll be going, which will stop it changing diection and also stop it luffing in lighter wind. It's safer and easier and although it will pull you more downwind but you can use this to push against the board and get your feet nice and tight into the straps.
I put my feet in the straps with the board straight across the kite pushing against it, legs bent and board up against yer bum more or less, then dive the kite, (slightly and at the edge of the window if the wind is 20 knots, more next time if you need it) and push your front foot out as soon as the kite pulls you onto the board, as soon as you're going lean back against the pull and turn upwind.
You'll probably go on some downwind blasts a few times, either because you're not turning upwind enough, or diving the kite too much so be ready to bail out and stay clear of downwind obstacles.

Don't fly the kite at zenith on land in strong or gusty wind. Keep it low at the edge of the window in 20 knots.

If I were you I'd try it in less wind (about 15 knots) first, in the bottom end of the kite's range.

If you start but always stall out, either the kite is too small for the wind, (not as in the conditions you mentioned) or the board is too narrow or you're not picking up enough apparent wind, or you're riding towards the kite too much.
In lightwind you can also fly the kite back to pull you out of the water and start going downwind then dive it down as you turn upwind.
Remember to stick your front foot out or you'll get pulled off the board or it'll skid out loads because it has no directionability.
Once you get going remember to turn the kite back up again or it'll crash into the sea.
Ask anything you want.
Jo

everything's hard in the beginning.

i teach it this way:
compare your situation to eating while driving your car.
some sauce on your shirt is ugly, but a crashed car is worse.
the kite's the car and the board's the falaffel.

so keep your mind on the kite.
and keep your board 90° to the lines, so the kite can't twist you.
5 tries with the kite overhead and problems on the board-handling are better than dropping the kite once

once you're in, get your ass to your heels and don't be too gentle with the kite ... get the bar a good yank and off you go...

Toby. I changed the message. Will put it up again when its done.

Jo. ThanX for the Great Words. I have a question though. Just about Everybody that I've seen here in Perth, has their kite at Zenith when Taking off. I don't recall seeing anybody doing it the way you described, although it sounds eazier, and makes more sense to do it the way you said, as you have resistance then. I will try this next time.

murdoc thanx man. I'll try not to spill any ketchup on me the next time I'm Kiting.

Cheers.

Hi guy,
I find that with the kite at zenith, it can turn one way or the other and even go into a dive and you're always trying to keep it at Zenith instead of concentrating on getting into your straps, and the kite spins you more. Doing it this way i get going rally quick, (few seconds).
Like Murdoc sez, if you keep it too low it is easier to drop it in the drink (especially if it catches a lull) I find a good compromise (9-11 oclock) is best.
Next tiem you'll be off like a rocket.
Have fun
Jo
