TOBY YOU OUT THERE..
LISTEN I RECENTLY BROKE THE BLACK CLIPS FROM THE CONTROL BAR TO THE LINES... I MADE A TEMP FIX AND PUT THE BROKEN ONE ON THE SAFTEY LEASH AND THE OTHER BACK TO THE BAR... IM SURE THERE IS REPLACEMENTS OUT THERE...BUT FOR A LOCAL ANSWER,THERE VERY SIMPLE CLIPS FOR THE PURPOSE... SO I WONDER IF I SIMPLY MODIFY THEM W/ SOME 500LBS OR BETTER CLIMBING D CLIPS FROM A LOCAL STORE HERE IN DENVER CO. I'D ADD IM GOOD W/ KNOT'S FROM SAILING... SO THEY WOULD BE SECURE! ANY REASON WHY THIS WOULDNT WORK... I DONT LIKE THE FACT HOW THE ARIGINAL WIPIKA CLIP BROKE..GLAD I WAS ON THE GROUND WHEN IT DID!!!
THANKS STEVE....

I never heard about it breaking.
But that was my first concern when I saw these clips. And not only mine. How did it brake? But not by flying the kite, or?
You can put whatever you trust on it. If the ones you mentioned are able to resist the pressure, go for it.

WELL YES IT HAPPEND WHEN I LAUNCHED THE KITE IN A PRETTY GOOD WIND.. GOT ABOUT 1/2 TO PWR
ZONE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I FELL BACKWORDS 5FT..! AS THE KITE FELL! IT WILL BE HARD TO EXPLAIN..
OK...! GOOD WAY TO DESCRIBE IT IS IT LOOKS LIKE A MASTER LOCK.... NOW THE KNOTCH ON THE U SHAPE SIDE LOCKS INTO THE BOTTOM.THE U SHAPE THIN PART WHERE THE LINE IS HELD TO KITE.. DID NOT BREAK.. BUT AT THE END OF IT IS A TRIANGLE KNOTCH THAT GOES INTO THE BOTTOM TRIANGLE SAY FEMALE SLOT..THE DESIGN IS THAT IF THE PULL IS OPPOSITE THE TRIANGLES LOCK TOGEHTER AND CANT BREAK LONGWAYS.. BUT IT APPEARS ALMOST AS IF SAY IT GOT TWISTED AND ACTAULLY BROKE THE THIN CASING THAT THE TRIANGLES LOCK TOGETHER... INSIDE THE CASING CRACKED OUTWARD..ALLOWING THE U SHAPE TRIANGLE TO SLIDE AWAY FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CLIP.. SHIT HARD TO DESCRIBE.. BUT IT REALLY BROKE LIKE ANY PLASIC PART CRACKS... ONE OF THE LOCALS HERE WHO IS A REP.. ALSO HAS HAD THEM BREAK ON HIM.. BUT WAS REPLACED FREE FOR HIM BY WIPIKA!!!

THE CLIMBING D RINGS I WOULD HOPE TO TRUST FOR I HANG 100 FEET OFF A CLIFF... YAA KNOW!!
IT WOULD BE THE KNOT THAT I WOULD WORRY ABOUT MOST..

MY BAR AND LINES IS LAST YEARS WIPIKA BAR.. SO WASNT EVEN THAT OLD ????

from last year should be of better quality.

But if you trust your hooks more than the ones from Wipika, go for it.
Or even leave the plastic parts away and attached the lines direct to the caster lines.

hey steve,
i've seen a few airblast bars where the riders attached these hooks ...
two things:

-make sure they work in sea water (if the material for the locking machanism is not too good, it'll rust and break some day)

-and buy the ones with the additional screwing-lock security system

they work better than the wipika stuff
