I have been trying to get pop off the water without sending the kite so I can start doing no-whip stuff, but every time I try it feels like the board is stuck to the water. I ride a 161 picklefork, could it be the board? Where should the kite be to do it?
thanks

kite will be good at 10-11 or 2-1 o'clock

if your board doesn't pop it doesn't have enough flex in it. The board is toos stiff.
Or maybe you didn't push the back of board in the water hard enough.

G'day,

Being super lit does help for sure, BUT remember when you were learning and you got into those crazy downwind speed warps where you get faster and faster and your kite gets more and more and more power till something blows up - usually loosing what little edge you had...

Try to emulate that, but once you are going fast and have lots of power with the kite further back in the window, edge upwind suddenly and the pop your self of your back leg - see what happens...

just throw your head in the direction you want to roll to. The the buddy will follow, but only if you really want it. Just don't think about it, do it. Then it will work.

Good luck!

Kite medium high, take some speed, turn upwind, built tension in your lines, knees flexed, hit the chop (if any) and pop.

In one word: timing.

No whip uses similar principals to cable ski jumps. You are loading the line, and then releasing. Edge as hard as oyu can until it feels like the kite is going to pull you over, then release your edge.

just ride upwind, kite high.
then fall down to a course about 90° to the wind, gaining some speed.
then lean back hard, going as hard upwind as possible.
you'll be lifted of the water a little bit.

to get higher, actively jump and dig the edge deeper just before.
practise around with timing, pressure, speed and so on.
