And tons of pictures!!!
YOu can send the pictrues to me and I will post them:

Hello Toby,

As you were on top of the list I had wondered if you were still flying over. I am sorry that you won't be able to make it this time. I shot a ton on nice digital video at the Islamorada competition last weekend and some Ok digital stills. I hope to do more of the same this weekend in Miami. I will send some along to you.

that would be great!

I really was looking forward to meet you in person, but I think I will be in Miami sooner that next year.

Tell us a little about the Islamorada comp.
Who won and who qualified for the Masters?

Do you already know which big names will be joining the Masters?

Thanks
Toby

Islamorada was very good. We had nice wind in the low 20 mph gusting to the mid to high 20's on Saturday. It was a bit side offshore so it was also gusty. The conditions were calm and fast! The gusty quality impaired the style and trick ambitions of many riders as it often impaired landings. Julian, one of the World Champs was there. He appeared oblivious to the gusts and flawlessly landed whatever move that happened to come to mind. Still Andy Hurdman won the free style session on Saturday. I am embarrased to say that I don't know the names of the other guys that also scored well at Islamorada but will have this information tomorrow and will post it.

On Sunday the winds were a bit lighter at 18 to 20 mph, side onshore and more stable. As a result the vast majority of the riders were able to throw virtually any move they could think of and often landed them. Kent was incredible doing one handed, no feet attached jumps. He actually landed a couple of these moves. The guys were passing and giving each other "five" they came that close to each other. Oliver popped endless high jumps. All the guys really looked very adept and great. Jayson Orkins won the big air/hang time competition on Sunday. They managed to wrap the competition minutes before a nasty squall that came up the Keys and slammed into shore.

I shot a ton of very nice digital video and hope to upload some compressed cuts soon. You can see some still shots and video at:

Good thing you got some winds. I have been in pompano, and ft lauderdale, and was at crandon today, and the winds have been terrible, like five knots. I hope there is more wind for the competition. I will be going to the comp on sunday, will take pictures and video and will post it for you guys.

Just came from the event from signing everyone in and it looks like they should have winds sideshore in the mid teens (mph). I was sunny, the water blue and clear and the wind building from the NNE. Tons of beach goers all around the fenced staging compound.

Most of the guys had checked in and it looked like they had just walked out of the pages of Kiteboarding Magazine. I will give a complete list of names soon, but the turnout was impressive. Guys that to this point were a bit shorter shredding in videos on the TV. So, the winds aren't like Maui in July, but for guys rigged big with the level of talent that they have, it should be quite a show!

I will send along updates as thing go on.

The Kiteboard Masters kicked off today. A very impressive field of riders checked in this morning including the best kiteboarders in the world and then some!!! A partial list of competitors appears below:

Alex Aguera
Maurcio Abreu
Jeff Biege
Shannon Best
Richard Boudia
Samuel DeCarolis
Charles Deleau
Nicolas Gandon
Tony Goman
Rob Hassle
Andy Hurdman
Neil Hutchinson
Karim Landais
Jonah Lepak
Hamish MacDonald

Up to now, many of these guys were impressive figures in videos and in Kiteboarding Magazine. Now many will be able to see them in action. Many of the best riders in Florida are also competing. Two of the riders of the world record Key West to Cuba Kiteboarding Crossing will also be there. So, in the day hot shredding on the water and at night, intense Sobe party action. A few photos that show the layout appear in the photo section located at:

The turnout has been good with both world champions and tons of other
excellent riders. The wind has been marginal but it is stronger than I
expected considering the recent conditions. The guys have been showing off
in extended free style sessions. A bunch of photos appear at:

http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/fk ... =t&.last=1

So, Islamorada definitely had more wind but this event is great and well
worth checking out.

Good winds,
Rick Iossi
