Why do you guys need a helmet.... do you head butt sharks in the water?
How come nobody swims in a helmet? Make it compulsory for surfers too, they need it big time. Or keep wearing a helmet at home too.... you know' you can slip in the bathroom you definetly need it then.
Next time you are on the water use medieval total body armor for kitesurfing. That'll make you cool!

Hai,

half a year of searching the right one...
however i found it, bought it, got out without it but gave it a try.
Only one session to get used to it and now it seems i don´t go out without it anymore.

Forget about feeling stupid, wear one if you feel safer.

In practice, I can barely think of a situation where a helmet would be needed (and I like the feeling of freedom of having the smallest possible amount of accessories).

Maybe if there's a lot of windsurfers around you can get their mast on your head. A good quick release and only going in the water in the right conditions, those are the 2 fondamental safety rules imo.

:)
ok,
i'll bite.

all things considered, the odds are probably 50/50 that people feel stupid wearing a helmet.

on the other hand, odds are also 50/50 that someone actually is stupid.

so if you feel stupid, it's quite likely that you are correct, regardless of you preference for helmets.

these days we've gone out of our way to protect people from themselves.
many would have been removed from the gene pool through natural selection were it not for the advent of bus-monitors, seat belts, helmets etc.

now that most of these nit-wits have reached ages previously considered statistically impossible.
the burden on society has grown exponentially as these folks find new, creative ways to hurt themselves and those around them.
kite surfing is the perfect example

famous last words for all you future Darwin Award contestants:
"hey fred, watch this !"

just kiddding, sort of
