Rhino6 16.0

Postby Toby » Sat Aug 20, 2005 11:04 am

the R6 16 is a very nice kite.
Lots of grunt, depower is ok, very nice lift and excellent hangtime.
Turning speed is very nice as well.

Jaime said, this kite has been designed specially to the pro riders need, this means in comps not riding bigger than 16sqm, fast turning but also grunt to get going early. It has a different character than the other sizes.

Shapes:

9-14
16
18+20

They differ. But excellent to get from the size what you want it for.

The depower of the 16 is not as much as the 9-14. So you ride it with a longer depower line. Don't make it too short, you need it longer.

9-12-16 setup willbe awesome for the R6. I'm keen on testing the 20 vs the 16 to compare low end. If it is 1-2 knots difference, I think the 16 is the way to go to combine all styles in one kite, since you can still loop the 16 fine.

I rode a 16m r6 this today and have nothing but good things to say about it.

Ken Winner has amazingly designed the best attributes of the r2, r4 & r5 into the r6's.

I currently have a 18m r5 and the r6 16m easily has the same amount of power as my 18m. I say this because I rode both kites back to back in the same conditions on the same board

The details…

Turning speed: Faster than the r5's

Speed through window: MUCH faster the r5’s

Bar pressure: more pressure than the r5's but only enough to give the rider a very good sense on the where the kite is.

Pop: Somewhere between an r2 & r4

Lift or glide: Comparable to an r2!

Over all power: Comparable to the r2’s on the low end with de-power of an r5.

Stability: Excellent!

Negatives: I honestly can not think of any!

Cheers,

jp

ps. my current quiver is 9 12 18 r5 and I'm ~95 kgs

I rode a r6 16 a couple of weeks ago and frankly found it just ok.

Ok lift, hangtime and turning speed.
Upwind just ok as well.

The 12 looks much nicer but I haven't tried it.

To me it is a very medium aspect kite with medium aspect performance
which I guess suits the comp scene at the moment.

The bar is average. This kite had only 4 sessions on it and the chicken loop line was worn badly, micro hook loop broken and foam was wearing badly off the bar around the center hole.

The build however looks good - as north does always, but for the thoroughbred in their line up I rate it average.

Looking forward to try the 12 (and 20 if one shows around here).

I would love to hear from people who have tried both this kite and the LF M80 16m as I think they are very comparable all round imo.

Why haven't they gone higher aspect with better performance and leave the vegas for the medium aspect????

I would like to ride the 16m R6 back to back with my 16 Raven 2. A lot of what's being said is true for the Raven as well....

I tried the Raven1 16 as well. And indeed, it is similar in its performance to the R6. The lift and hangtime is very similar. Not sure about depower and turning speed.

Hmm, Raven 2 turns way faster than Raven 1. Depower is very effective.
As soon as I've tried the 16m R6 I'll post it here!

Can any of you compare 16 metre rhino 06 or 05 with 17m 05 Fuel in terms of:

1. upwind ability

2. bar pressure required for turning kite

3. bar feedback for feeling where the kite is

4. low end power

Thanks.
