Hi guys,

Just bought a North Rhino 12m, instead of the Aero that I was going to buy.

I've read a few reviews that mention it can't be depowered as much as kites with the centre rope and strap arrangement (as it only has a strap adjustment). Has anyone made such a modification, and what have they found to be the best set-up? Also, can I do this without changing the bar, and without making any holes in it!!!??

Thanks,

Stace

do you have this bar?

With this bar you should put in another adjuster, since this one is only shortening the lenght of the depower and doesn't give you extra depower like others (Naish)

Doesn't cost much and is attached easily.

Do you think that this is worth it, since you can't have more depower than the lines being totally slack..

yes, it is worth it, since with this North adjuster you only shorten the lenght of the depower line, it doesn't give you extra depower. e.g. Naish adjuster gives you an aditional depower + the depower line. so you can ride within a larger range of winds.
with the original adjuster you can fly it from 4-5 Beaufort, with the other adjuster up to 6 Beaufort. (approx.)

Toby: clearify: 'extra depower'. Two depower straps stacked? Some other device?

Yes, that's the bar. They call it 'Rodeo' I think! I understand the concept you are suggesting. Seeing as this kite can be quite powerful, I need to depower it as much as possible.

I'll look into getting a longer depower strap. Any ideas who makes them?

Just use a rope, pulley and a clamcleat. Easy to adjust.

C clamcleat, put the rope

no, don't stack the adjuster, just replace the original one.

Thanks for the idea, but I don't like the sound of a pulley, gets a little dodgy when you start using stuff like that I reckon.

I'll just replace the current strap with a longer one if I can find one.

Cheers,

So what would be the right size of the strap?
How much cm should I be able to depower using the strap only?

I did not buy the North bar and I will be getting 2 new bars instead for my 9.3 and 16m Rhino's soon.
