Hi bros again,
today me and friends launched our kites on the beach just for fun because of hopeless wind 1-2m/s but found that 30m higher wind force is much stronger and sometimes suitable even to go on the water.

So question come up: As wind is stronger in upper layers of atmosphere what if 60m or even 90m lines?
My friend told a story how he rode over mirror like waters and I know he is not overstating.

it is possible with lines this long, but the kite won't be easy to handle.
it will be hard to steer and become very slow. You maybe could go out with lines up to 60 m, which I saw once at the beach. But still no big fun on the water.

you should spend your time with your girl, if there is no wind. There will be enough days with wind where you won't have any time for her!

the key is to get your girl kiteboarding too. that is my plan this summer. she is really interested, and will be taking a lesson pretty soon.

I us 50m lines in 7 knots with a 19.5ARX , (27 m + 20 m + 1.5m leaders + powersteering).
Works great, but only results in me needing about half a knot less than with 30m lines.

In 8 to 9 knots, good floaty jumps and easy double forward loops.

Try longer lines, if you get a lot of light winds.

I can recall some years ago when very low clouds run like mad but there was almost nothing on the water. We stood with our wsurfboards totally confused. Probably that happens when wind direction is changing by 180 degrees.

ok, so I understood that extending lines gives only small advantage of additional wind and then we can just have lazy ride without jumps? right?

No, jumps are very floaty. You need to try it to believe it.
