Spanish kiting....

Postby biz » Mon Apr 03, 2006 3:56 am

So I am moving to spain to learn spanish for the summer .. I am a university student moving to one of the coasts.... either along the mediterranean or along the atlantic coastline. I was hoping that somebody could give me some direction .. i am looking for a great kiteboarding destination as well as a student community ... is that possible?

Other questions ... where is some good wave riding, flat riding ... and im bringing with me 12m and 16m kites.

Appreciate any help you can give.

cheers,
jon

very very easy to answer. South of spain.

There you have 2 posibillities:

1- Malaga. GREAT internationals students city, sun, many thing to do. Great night life, good termal winds, lot of kiteboarders. And if you drive 1,30h, you arrive tarifa.

2. Cadiz. Smaller city than malaga, same time to get tarifa but cheaper to stay there.

both cities are great, but i recommend malaga, it is closer to everithing. and many places to kite

Kitesurfing in Roses , Ampurio Brava , St Pescador in north east spain
is very nice in the summer. Everyday a thermal wind from 15 - 22 knots
and it's 1 hour drive from barcalona!

I think my plan is to hit up Malaga in June for a month -- is there any specific information i should be aware of in this region -- can i kite close to the city if i dont have a vehicle (being a student and all) .. and i'm working with a 12 m and a 16m kite on a decent sized board ...

any information is helpful ... and i feel my kites are way too big for tarifa yes ?

thanks
jon

Biz - a 12 + 16 are great for Tarifa poiente. We get light wind days here too. But you will need smaller rigs for Levante. The perfect additions to your setup are a 9 + 5m - for Levante mild-> hard core. It can be gusty, but it's real fun when you are comfortable handling it.

Spanish Courses

Postby arnego2 » Sun Apr 23, 2006 3:59 am

Hi Biz,
well oehem,
how to start, good it is more in the Caribbean than the Atlantic but we organice Spanish courses on one of the more known Wind and Kite surfer beaches in Venezuela.

There is some selfish interest in this posting, I hope you guys don't mind.
Academia de Idiomas Peter organices together with a small Posada Spanish courses in the morning, the time where no wind gets you up and running. :bye:

kind regards
