knowing or reading the kite surf access rules if you want to try different spots is a no brainer.
shannon knew the rules and flouted them and risked acces for almost 1,000 kiters[north east kitesurfers forum on yahoo has close to that many members. ]actually 1002 as i'm sure the best peanut gallery of chaz and tisebag will be joining anytime soon.
everyone shooting the messenger on this thread is missing the point. access is 99% to determining the future and viability of the sport of kitesurfing.
you come to my local spot and act in an irresponsible manner, i will have words with you. we can't self police our spots 24/7 so there has to be a minimum level of awareness amongst kiters.
shannon best rolled into cape cod with a total lack of knowledge of the history and the hard battle fought by the cape cod kiting community to gain access to southern beaches in the peak season when cape cod boasts fantastic south west wind.

we have a major access issue effecting kiters globally, do we need the peanut gallery of best cronies attempting their pathetic version of damage control?

tisebag you have 2 posts to your name and you list your location as cambridge. you obviously don't kite in the cape otherwise you wouldn't be defending shannon's actions that could shut kiting down in west dennis permanently.
chaz you never clarified whether you were in cambridge mass, cambridge university or cambridge vermont.you have 24 posts and the majority of them are sparring with the originator of this thread. maybe he jumped over you or sprayed you while on the water and hence the personal animosity.

it's jul 10 and you have another 50 kiting days until labor day. in august when west dennis is closed down you think shannon will give a toss while he bides his time in the columbia river gorge or the rio vista delta.

lets try to learn one thing from this post. kiting is a global pursuit, you can pack a bag of kit and be 1/2 way across the world at a premium kiting spot in 10 hours, yet if you don't respect the local rules and regs you are going to f it up for all kiters.
shannon, you were a maui local yet i never saw you kiting hookipa or kanaha. you bided your time on kite beach as you knew that was the only way the sport would survive.
step up to the plate and quit hiding behind your network of cronies that joined this forum to defend your actions.

If you're at a great spot not far from a major city and the wind is awesome and there are no other kiters out on the water -

you should be wondering WHY...

Shannon's response from the Best Site:

Yes the rules apply to me even more so, I understand the position and responsibility I have within the industry. Not only am I representing Bestkiteboarding, but after Touring this wonderful country in the bus, its has become more noticeable the importance of being an ambassador for the sport in whole. Although the facts about the Cape Cod incident aren’t completely correct, I’m still extremely sorry for any controversy that this has created.
SB

The guy apologized. What else can he do? We all make mistakes (stupid one included), and we most likely will make some more.

Gipsy- Dont be fooled by my profile. I had to re-register becuase I could not remember my username, to many forums I guess. Toby says without it I need to register again. Enuff about that. I'm located on Cape Cod and in Boston, I was kiting at WD the prior day, I know all the people involved and appreciate all that has been done by Phil and the rest of the crew regarding access, really. My point was simply that there was a level of ambiguity that day for a number of reasons; I think that everyone that matters has had there say but some people can't leave it alone.

gipseysurfer,

the immaturity of satan and hollow agenda of kiterfighter are obvious... at least they know their intent...

you, with all your education, age and experience... seem fixated on your intellectual masturbation

try to keep things in proper perspective... it enhances your points and adds to the debate...

1) At the worst... shannon was told not to kite and did so anyway...
Is this bad... sure... he's not just a kiter but an 'ambassador' of the sport

2) Perhaps his appology is not as contrite as you would have preferred... just realize Shannon spent his life becoming a world class wakeboarder and kiter... not a global ambassador... and we all know kiteheads, like surfheads, don't use good judgement all the time

3) Most important... Shannon, for all his faults... is one of the more decent, considerate and sensitive human being you will never meet...

4) Just because you hate Best the company doesn't mean know anything about Best the person or other cronies... and you should certainly give up being a psychic... you don't have a good track record at all...

Kiterfighter, you are anal!

kiterfighter wrote:Nice try Chaz your qoute from SB leaves out the word "controversy". There is no controversy SB kited where he was not supposed too. End of story. All the other talk is just BS. He is trying to make excuses for his behavior since he knows he fucked up.

SB is responsible for where and how he kites not me, Phil, or anyone else. Get it?
Kiterfighter, Forgive me for making this observation about how anal you are but in case you cannot figure it and it is obvious you cannot see that I was simply paraphrasing in the interest of saving time for the post. I know I said that or should I quote that for you? Why don't you just admit that you hate Best kiteboarding and are another Best basher? I'm gonna go out on another limb here but I seriously doubt you fly anything Best for you to pester and banter on this far. Yes I know you said you have Best kites which is a probably another lie. Your dislike for SB, someone you prabably don't even know is transparent. All that I said was that the man did apologize. You can chose to accept it or you don't. Since we are on the subject of boycotts and you own Best why don't you be proactive and stop flying your Best kites immediately. I will gladly take your kites off your hands if you want to show everyone here that you are serious about this boycott and your post. This is your opportunity to prove to everyone on kiteforum that you are serious about this boycott. I promise I will put them to good use. :thumb:

the fact that SB may have apologized somewhere is irrelevant. Phil told him verbatim there was no kiting allowed there...where's the ambiguity in that? THere seems to be this attitude today that apologizing for something resolves everything. It doesn't fly w/me. If I tell someone they cannot kite somewhere, and they basically say f-u, and later they apologize after kiting in that spot, all i can say is f-u back.

a suggestion was made to use physical force to stop someone from kiting in prohibited areas; guys like SB tend to hide behind lawyers, so its probably not worth it.

i have nothing against Best Kiteboarding; i've owned one kite and a bar from them. I know 'tisebag' and that he likes Best equipment alot, as do many folks around here. thats all fine. I don't know SB at all, and frankly, don't care to. he had his one chance at a first impression...

Chaz, Yeah I'll just burn my kites and give up the sport all together that'll teach them... or just fly with my arms.

They make great kites I just won't buy anymore until they grow up, which we all know they can't. They are like spoiled children with no adult supervision. That's why we have to punish them through the only thing they understand, money. Then they will listen! And maybe not go around the country in a tacky bus getting everyone's spot banned!! NICE job BEST. The Great North American BAN tour. Coming to your spot soon!

PS Vietkiter your right I do bash Best! They make it so easy! And FUN!

Glad to see your megalomania is back on line. :brainshit:

JK you seem like a nice guy and forgive me for being presumptuous but I think that part where SB said "f-u" was omitted in the previous posts. I must have missed that part. So you are saying that SB said "F-u" to you after you told him that? Wow I did not know that but seems unlikely that a guest of yours would say that to the hosts. Either way that's totally not cool. I was just reading on the Best forum that guy who owns the shop up there said there was no permanant harm done to your access. Well at least I'm glad to hear that you can still kite there!
