Brazil in December

Postby murphysegg35 » Tue Jul 18, 2006 10:44 pm

Iv'e been granted December off from work.....sourced flight & accomodation prices in the Ceara region of Brazil, but beleive that vehicle hire can be a crippler. Probably the most expensive part of the vacation.

I don't particularly want to be stuck in one area, when theres so many kiting spots to try between Cumbuco & Jere...

Is anyone looking at taking a kite vacation to Brazil in the month of December & willing to split costs of 4x4 hire?

The only other way i can see of checking out other areas is by booking up with some of the Downwinders, but these don't come cheap & appear to be geared towards group bookings.

I know it may be a long way off, but give me a shout if any of you are intending to head out that way....

Cheers....Jason

Hey Jason,

For 4 weeks in December you can probably get a Mistubishi L200 or Toyota Hi-Lux (2005) for R$ 200 to R$ 220 per day with insurance and 150 km per day included. I can hook you up with a car rental office in Fortaleza if you're interested.

For maps and beaches of the coast between Fortaleza and Jeri/Prea, click here

Your other option is stay a week or 10 days in different beaches along the coast and rent a buggy whenever you want to do excursions to other beaches or lagoons close to the pousada where you decide to stay. Just remember that buggies aren't particularly reliable vehicles. :D

If you're interested in accomodations in Prea or other beaches, pm me or click here.

Cheers,

Fred :bye:

Hi Jason,
if you don´t wanna stay only on one beach you can rent a car like Fred already said or you can come with us. We start from Cumbuco to different beaches in Ceara. And for sure if you come to Cumbuco you will find guys here they´re like you, looking for people to explore the beaches together.
If you are more interested to stay especially in Cumbuco or Paracuru just write me, know all the places here

a 4x4 is very expensive. Normally you will find some people to share a car. BEst pla<ce is CUmbuco, it has the most kiters, then move on.

An alternative is a buggy, about 80-120 Reais per day, and so much fun!
I drive with a buggy too. Best car in the world!

Hi Jason,

You should fly to Fortaleza and go to Cumbuco.
Make reservations for 2 or 3 nights in a pousada and look around. You'll meet al lot of kitesurfers who want to travel around. You can rent a car together. In december it's normaly not that busy that you can't find a place to stay. If you want to stay longer in Cumbuco it's not a problem to find a pousada. In Cumbuco you can find a lot of people who live there a couple of years and know everything about traveling, renting cars and kitespots.
If you rent a buggy you have to be carefull where you rent it. If you don't get a good one you can get a lot of problems with the car.
If you want more information about things above look at
http://www.cumbuco.nl.
Robert can give you all the information you need

Have fun

Hi Jason,

Although I have never taken it myself, I understand the buses from Fortaleza / Cumbuco to Jeri really aren't that bad at all! And, of course, they are very inexpensive! Good way to head up the coast and see and ride as much as possible!

If you're interested, send me a message and I'll send you the bus info.

Have fun - it is awesome!

Thanks Folks for all your advice.....very much appreciated.

The flight is booked, so i can relax and sort out the finer details at a later time.

For now it's time to swot up on some Portuguese.

Cumbuco is the meca of KiteSurf in Brazil; you can find various types of accomodation and tours there. Jeri is super windy and in Dec you will need a small kite.
For accomodation in Cumbuco check out http://www.cumbuco.co.uk
Have a great holiday

note: winds in Jericoacoara are OFFSHORE :o

The kite beach of the area is called PREA, about 15 minutes East of Jeri, 15 km of white sandy beach with SIDE-ONSHORE winds.

Pm if you want details on the area and the flat water lagoons close-by.

Cheers, Fred :bye:
