I use foil kites and as far as I am concerned they are simply a small DHV 1 paraglider.

At the moment my best fun in kitesurfing is long, low, fast glides. The current gear does this fine.

I would not want to be hanging on the end of kite lines just hanging in the lift band at the set of kite lines. The first time I went ridge soaring (12 years ago) I almost gave up paragliding as "boring soaring".

Paragliders and kites are trimmed at a different way. If you look at the profile when the kite and paraglider are horizontal in the air, the profile of a kite is pointed a little bit up and the profile off a paraglider is pointed a little bit down. So IF you should want to use the kite for paragliding you have to trim it at a different way. But as said before use your gear where its been made for. And use a paraglider if you want more airtime (take a course).

Woody (also paragliding and thinks soaring is not boaring)

anon, ifyou want high jumps but are not worried about hangtime and soft landings get yourself a 4.9 blade. Cheap as chips second hand and pretty much indestructable.
