gaastra spyder

Postby pndLA » Sat Aug 12, 2006 3:04 pm

got a chance to try the new 2007 bow from gaastra the spyder this week...
it was a 9 and i was out in winds around 5-6bft... it was a very positiv surprise! no pulley on the kite or the bar so...
the kite feels nice, good response on the bar, very nice turning - you can stop the turns in any position

the bar doesnt have that much depower so you can let go of the bar and stilll ride when powerde good... if you need massive depower you have to use the adjuster... works nice with a clamcleat

also tried unhooked riding when fully adjusted - works really nice - good pull in loops but still controleable...

the maintube seems pretty thin so i pumped it up hard (8 psi)
relaunch was super easy - bow style
flies similar to a waroo but i think more precise...

i just wanted to try the kite for half an hour but stayed out for one 1,5 hours because i had so much fun (i normally ride c-kites)

onepump would be nice but you can expand the bag to leave the struts inflated!

i think gaastra did a really good job on the kite!

oh yeah the bar... its very simple and light but very fuctional!

the adjuster is clamcleat and there are two safety options... one goes to both powerlines (bowstyle safety) - the kite goes to the edge of the windwindow

the second option is the classic oh-shit handle on a stearing line...

some nice details like a velco on the end of the depoerstrap and on the cleat so when fully adjusted the strp doesent dangle around...

and also when using the bow-safety the safety line gets pulled in when you depower the kite... so the safety doesent dangle around the chicken loop...

Yes, please repost. I am very interested in seeing the bar set-up.

Also would like to know when Gaastra will be shipping the Spyder to the USA! Haven't seen them here yet...

I thought Gaastra had given up on kites, so little exposure in UK.

Did enjoy a GXR a while back though, hope they are on a come back.
pics would be good.

Got sample of Spyder 9.0 in ukraine too.

have such feelings too, very good response and turning speed, very light feeling vhen riding it and easy to go upwind, even if power is low .

Tryed out when was 7,5 m/s ( 15 knots ) and was pleased that can stay upwind slightly (80 kg weight body ) ...

In 9-10 m/s conditions it was perfect, was possible to make kiteloops ...
Waiting for 12.0 or 15.0 for tests.

Seems it is clone of NORTH REBEL , isn't ???

GAASTRA is maked good job for 2007 season, very pleased with 2007 products line ...

As for 2006 kites, there was Vision-2 , good kites, reminiscent NORTH Vegas , seems progres is going now well...

Looks good. I think the ION has similar idea for the leash (pulls both front lines).
Just to be clear, this bar can flag the kite on a rear line, but not on a front line, right?
